Conduct Disorder among Primary Schoolchildren in Southern Nigeria.

Background: Conduct disorder is a mental disorder characterized by hostile and sometimes physically violent behavior. It is a source of concern not only to the parents but also to the children's teachers and the community. Its prevalence rate in our environment is unknown.

Knowledge, perception, and interest regarding biotechnology among secondary school students in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria.

A survey was carried out to investigate the knowledge, perception and interest of secondary school students about biotechnology. A total of 334 questionnaires were distributed to students in Senior Secondary 3 classes from eight secondary schools within Calabar metropolis. Data was collected and analyzed using SPSS version 7.

Early Detection of Renal Injury in Children with Sickle Cell Anaemia using Microalbuminuria in a Tertiary Health Institution in Southern Nigeria.

Background: Sickle cell anaemia (SCA), one of the causes of morbidity and mortality in children is associated with a large spectrum of systemic complications including sickle cell nephropathy (SCN). Microalbuminuria has been used as a marker of preclinical glomerular damage in these patients. This study aimed at detecting early, renal injury in children with SCA aged 1-17 years, highlighting associations and predictors of microalbuminuria in these children.

Prevalence of hypertension and prehypertension among children and adolescents in a semi-urban area of Uyo Metropolis, Nigeria.

Introduction: In the past, Hypertension in childhood was not considered a problem but in the last few decades, it has gradually become a source of concern especially as children are known to maintain their blood pressures into adulthood. Therefore, hypertensive children are at risk of developing cardiovascular complications earlier in adulthood. In our own environment, the prevalence of hypertension in children is undocumented, hence the purpose of this study.

Childhood cancers in a referral hospital in south-south Nigeria: a review of the spectrum and outcome of treatment.

Introduction: Childhood malignancies are now recognized as a growing global challenge, especially in resource poor settings. Although they constitute a smaller percentage of childhood illnesses in developing countries, compared with infectious diseases, the burden of cancer is still a tremendous problem on patients, families, the healthcare system, and the society. Data on the burden of childhood cancers across different regions is important, as there may be variations in incidences in different locations even within the same country.
