Objective: The agitation that can occur in patients undergoing vitreoretinal surgery on awakening from general anesthesia is a serious post-operative problem. In our study, we aimed to compare the effects of different anesthesia methods on emergence agitation in patients undergoing vitreoretinal surgery.

Objective: To identify image biomarkers associated with overall life expectancy from low-dose computed tomography and integrate them as an index for assessing an individual's health.

Methods: Two categories of CT image features, body composition tissues and cardiopulmonary vasculature characteristics, were quantified from LDCT scans in the Pittsburgh Lung Screening Study cohort(n = 3,635). Cox proportional-hazards models identified significant image features which were integrated with subject demographics to predict the subject's overall hazard.

Background: Emerging evidence indicates that cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases exert distinct functions in pain processing and that targeting phosphodiesterases might be a novel strategy for pain relief. This study hypothesized that the phosphodiesterase isoform phosphodiesterase 10A (PDE10A) might be a target for analgesic therapy.

Methods: In situ hybridization, immunostaining, cyclic nucleotide enzyme immunoassays, real-time cyclic guanosine monophosphate imaging, and real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction were performed to investigate the expression and activity of PDE10A in the dorsal root ganglia and spinal cord.

Background: Pregnancy outcomes are influenced by maternal distress but the pathways underlying these effects are still unknown. Mitochondria, crucial for stress adaptation and energy production, may link psychosocial stress to its biological effects, especially during pregnancy when energy demands significantly increase. This study explores two mitochondrial markers-circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (cf-mtDNA) and Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF15)-as potential mitochondrial health indicators linking maternal distress to pregnancy outcomes in two longitudinal studies from the USA and Turkey.

Nitrogen-containing heterocycles are present in most approved drugs, reflecting the significance of their synthetic strategies. By utilizing oxadiazolone as a nitrenoid (nitrene-like) precursor, we have developed a general strategy for the annulation with nucleophilic heterocycles to access various polycyclic aminoheterocycles. We have discovered that 2-pyrryl-substituted substrates undergo a rearrangement, which indicates a spirocyclization-migration pathway.
