Colitis cystica profunda associated with diverticulosis and calcification mimicking colorectal carcinoma: a case report and a brief literature review.

Colitis cystica profunda (CCP) is a rare, uncommon and nonneoplastic condition that can occur anywhere in gastrointestinal tract, but its main occurrence is in the rectum and sigmoid colon. It is characterized by the presence of mucin filled cysts, lined by benign epithelium, beneath the muscularis mucosae, usually confined to the submucosa, and it can clinically and radiologically mimic a neoplasm. Here we report a rare case of CCP in a patient with a 2-months history of abdominal pain and severe anemia, associated with diverticulosis.

Typical values of z-resolution for different Digital Breast Tomosynthesis systems evaluated in a multicenter study.

Purpose: The aim of the present study, conducted by a working group of the Italian Association of Medical Physics (AIFM), was to define typical z-resolution values for different digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) models to be used as a reference for quality control (QC). Currently, there are no typical values published in internationally agreed QC protocols.

Methods: To characterize the z-resolution of the DBT models, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the artifact spread function (ASF), a technical parameter that quantifies the signal intensity of a detail along reconstructed planes, was analyzed.

Clear cell carcinoma is a clinically and biologically distinct type of carcinoma predominantly encountered in the ovary and endometrium. In the ovary, it is frequently associated with endometriosis, which is a well-known risk factor. Endometriosis has often been described in the abdominal wall of women who had a cesarean section; however, malignant transformation is a very rare event, occurring in <1% of cases.

Neo-adjuvant radiotherapy is frequently employed in the therapeutic management of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). Radiotherapy can both reduce local recurrence and improve the success of surgical procedures by reducing tumor mass size. However, some patients show a poor response to treatment, which results in primary resistance or relapse after apparent curative surgery.
