Article Synopsis
  • Liver transplantation is the best option for people with severe liver disease, and there's growing interest in using it to treat liver tumors like colorectal liver metastases and cholangiocarcinoma.
  • The shortage of donor organs is leading to more use of marginal grafts from deceased donors, making machine perfusion important for enhancing graft acceptance and minimizing damage during transplantation.
  • While current studies show no significant evidence that machine perfusion reduces cancer recurrence post-transplant, it may improve graft function and reduce injury, which could help in fighting cancer recurrence in the future.

Article Synopsis
  • Alicyclobacillus spp. can spoil acidic food products and citrus drinks, causing sensory changes and economic losses, which are challenging to control with traditional methods like pasteurization.
  • This study investigates the antibacterial and sporicidal effects of a combination of hexane extract from Matricaria chamomilla L. and Nisin, demonstrating significant effectiveness against Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris with low minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations.
  • The research highlights promising results in using these natural compounds in orange juice, where they effectively inhibit bacterial growth, while also providing insights through advanced techniques like flow cytometry and SEM.

The effects of adding cochineal carmine and annatto dyes in five mortadella formulations made with curcumin microcrystals were compared, and the preference was evaluated and described sensorially. Based on the optimized formulation obtained with color parameters, two formulations were elaborated: curcumin microcrystals and cochineal carmine were added. During 60 days, pH, objective color, water retention capacity, lipid oxidation, and texture profile analyses were performed.

The agricultural sector is currently encountering significant challenges due to the effects of climate change, leading to negative consequences for crop productivity and global food security. In this context, traditional agricultural practices have been inadequate in addressing the fast-evolving challenges while maintaining environmental sustainability. A possible alternative to traditional agricultural management is represented by using beneficial micro-organisms that, once applied as bioinoculants, may enhance crop resilience and adaptability, thereby mitigating the adverse effects of environmental stressors and boosting productivity.
