Background: Persistent and mobile organic compounds (PMOC) are of great concern for water quality and human health. The recent improvement and availability of high-resolution mass spectrometry in combination with liquid chromatography have widely expanded the potential of analytical workflows for their detection and quantitation in water. Given their high polarity, the detection of some PMOC requires alternative techniques to reversed-phase chromatography, such as hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC).

Article Synopsis
  • An analysis reveals that Internal Bremsstrahlung (IB), a high-order effect in beta decay usually overlooked, significantly affects the decay processes of certain radionuclides, contributing to continuous emission due to electron braking in the Coulomb field.
  • The review shows a lack of satisfactory models that can accurately predict the experimental IB distribution for various beta emitters, with discrepancies found in measurements.
  • The study emphasizes the relevance of incorporating the IB process into the physics of beta decay, highlighting its implications for fields like nuclear medicine, industrial applications, and research areas such as dark matter and neutrino mass.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers confirmed that the O1 isolates from these cases belonged to the seventh pandemic El Tor lineage (7PET) and identified virulence characteristics, antimicrobial resistance, and phylogenetic relationships among the strains.
  • * The study found that 46 of 49 high-quality genomes belonged to the 7PET lineage, with a dominant subgroup likely contributing to the rise in cholera cases; it emphasized the need for whole genome sequencing in high-income countries to track the evolution of strains and antimicrobial resistance.

Xanthates, derivatives of xanthic acid, are widely utilized across industries such as agrochemicals, rubber processing, pharmaceuticals, metallurgical, paper and mining to help separate metals from ore. Despite their prevalent use, many registered xanthates lack comprehensive information on potential risks to human health and the environment. The mining sector, a significant consumer of xanthates, drives demand.

To present and characterize a novel method for x-ray computed tomography (xCT) calibration in proton treatment planning, based on proton CT (pCT) measurements on biological phantoms.A pCT apparatus was used to perform direct measurements of 3D stopping power relative to water (SPR) maps on stabilized, biological phantoms. Two single-energy xCT calibration curves-i.
