Memories evoked by odors stimulating the olfactory nerve versus odors stimulating both the olfactory and trigeminal nerves: possible qualitative differences?

The purpose of the study was to establish whether autobiographical memories differ when a stimulus producing olfactory or/and trigeminal sensations was used as memory cue. The following hypothesis was formulated: memories evoked by odors activating the trigeminal and olfactory nerves would be subjectively assessed as more detailed, more clear, more important and less happy, as compared to memories evoked by odors activating exclusively the olfactory nerve. The hypothesis was based on the assumption that trigeminal odors are perceived as signaling potential threats for the organism.

[Quality of treatment in children with type 1 diabetes based on the Polish Prospective Pump Programme].

Background: In pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, the value of HbA1c is a predictor of the risk of late systemic complications in adulthood. In the last years significant changes in the method of treatment in pre-pubertal children with T1DM have taken place. However, there is lack of precise data concerning the results of metabolic control of this group of patients.

[Malherbe's calcifying epithelioma (pilomatrixoma)].

Purpose: Of this study is to present the clinical variability of epithelioma, pathomorfological appearance of the tumor and the views on its pathogenesis.

Results: Malherbe's calcifying epithelioma has a very different, sometimes unusual appearance, similar to other, more frequent laesions.

[Malherbe's calcifying epithelioma (pilomatrixoma)--own experience].

Purpose: Malherbe's calcifying epithelioma is a rare hair matrix tumor. The objective is to present clinical cases and to analyze the variability of its image.

Material And Methods: Among nearly 3500 patients with ocular tumors operated during the last 10 years in the Department of Ophthalmology and Ocular Oncology in Krakow we identified a group of 7 patients with histologically confirmed pilomatrixoma.

[Metabolic syndrome in young adults type 1 diabetic patients].

Aim: The aim of the study was to estimate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MS) in type 1 diabetic patients and to assess the relationship between the scores of MS components and body mass and metabolic control.

Material And Methods: 165 patients aged 18-32 years with diabetes duration 8-26 years were included into the study. The height, weight, waist circumference and blood pressure were measured.
