Objectives: Despite protections offered in California, there is limited understanding of abortion access in underserved regions, including the Central Valley. Furthermore, there has been limited community involvement, especially from those directly affected, in the development of research priorities in abortion care. We utilized the Research Prioritization of Affected Communities (RPAC) protocol to identify research priority topics and research questions for future abortion-related research.

Article Synopsis
  • The review discusses the historical context and recent research about preventing Rh-alloimmunization during abortion care.
  • Recent findings indicate that the risk of Rh-alloimmunization during first trimester abortions is very low.
  • High-quality studies show fetal red blood cells can enter maternal circulation before abortion, questioning the necessity of Rh immunoglobulin before 12 weeks of gestation and highlighting the lack of consensus on guidelines for prevention.

Introduction/objective: Transcatheter therapeutics have revolutionized treatment of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Greater understanding of corrective interventions across species can advance best practices, protocols, and outcomes while minimizing adverse events. The objective of this study was to describe characteristics and outcomes in children and dogs undergoing transcatheter PDA occlusion.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has proven to be highly enigmatic due to the diversity of its underlying genetic causes and the huge variability in symptom presentation. Uncovering common phenotypes across people with ASD and pre-clinical models allows us to better understand the influence on brain function of the many different genetic and cellular processes thought to contribute to ASD aetiology. One such feature of ASD is the convergent evidence implicating abnormal functioning of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) across studies.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare cervical preparation with transcervical balloon to osmotic dilators for second-trimester procedural abortions.

Study Design: We performed an unblinded, randomized, noninferiority trial of people undergoing second-trimester procedural abortion at 18 + 0 to 23 + 6 weeks' gestation. We randomized participants to either overnight osmotic dilators (Dilapan-S) or transcervical balloon (Foley).
