Arsenic (As) and lead (Pb) are environmental pollutants found in common sites linked to similar adverse health effects. This study determined driving factors of neurotoxicity on the developing cerebral vasculature with As and Pb mixture exposures. Cerebral vascular toxicity was evaluated at mixture concentrations of As and Pb representing human exposures levels (10 or 100 parts per billion; ppb; µg/L) in developing zebrafish by assessing behavior, morphology, and gene expression.

Despite its effectiveness in treating a variety of neurologic and psychiatric conditions, valproate carries many clinically significant adverse effects that are sometimes life-threatening. Due to the potentially severe nature of these adverse effects, providers must communicate these risks to patients and maintain close follow-up, especially during the first six months following drug initiation or dose increase. We present a case of a 64-year-old male with schizoaffective disorder who developed thrombocytopenia following the initiation of valproate.

Here we describe a pediatric patient with febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome with a good functional and neurologic outcome after treatment with early and aggressive cytokine-directed immunomodulatory therapy and a seizure management strategy that intentionally avoided a barbiturate coma. A 5-year-old previously healthy male presented with staring, behavioral arrest, and encephalopathy evolving to super-refractory status epilepticus. He had had onset of fever 5 days prior.
