Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the use of Doppel, a prion-like protein absent in healthy female tissues, as a specific biomarker for detecting ovarian cancer (OC) early, distinguishing different subtypes and stages with high sensitivity and specificity.
  • - Increased levels of Doppel in the sera of OC patients were found across three cohorts, allowing researchers to categorize the tumors into Doppel-high and Doppel-low groups, which are linked to differences in cancer characteristics.
  • - The research also reveals that Doppel induces a process called epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and creates an immunosuppressive environment, suggesting a correlation between Doppel levels and circulating tumor cell (CTC) dissemination in the bloodstream.
