Immune checkpoint inhibitor refractory colitis leading to total colectomy in a melanoma patient.

Immunotherapy is becoming more and more relevant in the treatment of advanced melanoma. Proper management of its side effects can prevent severe complications. We describe the case of a 73-year-old patient with severe refractory colitis secondary to immunotherapy.

An unusual recurrent ileocolonic injury.

Potassium binders (Kayexalate® and Sorbisterit®) are commonly used to treat hyperkaliemia. They are made of sodium or calcium polystyrene sulfonate. Their use is associated with multiple adverse effects including ileocolonic (or more rarely upper digestive tract) injuries which can lead to necrosis or perforations.

Electrical vagus nerve stimulation and nicotine effects in peritonitis-induced acute lung injury in rats.

The cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway has been identified as playing a key role in the communication between the central nervous system and the immune system during inflammation. The potential beneficial role of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) remains to be clarified in established sepsis. We hypothesized that VNS or nicotine administration would reduce lung injury and mortality in established sepsis.

Adult-onset nemaline myopathy and monoclonal gammopathy: a case report.
