Validation of the Portuguese version of the Movement Disorder Society non-motor rating scale (MDS-NMS) in Parkinson's disease.

Background: The Movement Disorder Society Non-Motor Rating Scale (MDS-NMS) serves as a comprehensive clinical assessment tool for non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) OBJECTIVES: This study aims to validate the Portuguese version of the MDS-NMS, addressing the critical need for culturally adapted rating scales in Portuguese-speaking populations.

Methods: This multicenter, cross-sectional study engaged native Portuguese-speaking PD patients from 16 Movement Disorders Centers across Portugal and Brazil. We conducted a meticulous translation process into Portuguese, including forward-backward translation and cognitive pretesting.

Flexibility between immersion and distancing: Relationship with depressive symptoms and therapeutic alliance.

Objectives: High levels of change are linked to the flexibility between immersion and distancing, as well as to higher levels of therapeutic alliance. This study aims to explore the evolution of flexibility between immersion and distancing throughout the entire therapeutic process and its relationship with therapeutic alliance and depressive symptoms in a clinical case.

Method: We analyzed five sessions of a good outcome case of depression undergoing cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Repercussions of abuse by caregivers in the elderly population with dementia: a scoping review.

Due to the ageing population throughout the world, the rates of older adults suffering from dementia are increasing, requiring a closer look at this population. As a result, the aim of this scoping review is to gather data from the scientific literature on the repercussions of abuse of elderly people with dementia by their caregivers. For this review, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews was used as a guideline to structure the review topics.

Relationship between fundus of the eye examination and arterial stiffness.

This review addresses the correlation between arterial stiffness, measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV), and retinal microvascular changes, highlighting the retina as an important accessible window for inferences about cardiovascular health. Arterial stiffness, intrinsically linked to vascular aging and several comorbidities, results in damage to the microcirculation, including ocular vasculature, which can act as a predictor of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular outcomes. The review highlights the relationship between PWV assessment and funduscopic examination, with the aim of improving diagnostic accuracy and optimizing the clinical application of these tools in the management of cardiovascular and ophthalmological diseases, thus promoting more effective and early intervention.

Structural Insights and Potential Inhibitor Identification Based on the Benzothiazole Core for Targeting Pteridine Reductase 1.

Leishmaniasis is reported as the second most common protozoonosis, with the highest prevalence and mortality rate. Among the Leishmania drug targets, Pteridine Reductase 1 of (PTR1) proved to be promising because Leishmania is auxotrophic for folates. Thus, this study employed a combination of ligand- and structure-based approaches to screen new benzothiazole compounds as PTR1 inhibitor candidates.
