[Cryptorchidism: An update of advances in its diagnosis and treatment].

The absence of one or both testicles in the scrotal position is defined as cryptorchidism. It occurs in 1 - 8 % of full-term newborns and up to 45 % of preterm newborns. Its detection is of great importance due to its association with fertility disorders and the risk of malignancy.

Introduction. Puberty is manifested initially by the onset of secondary sexual characteristics as a result of hormonal changes that progressively lead to complete sexual maturity. In Argentina and worldwide, the lockdown resulting from the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic may have interfered in the onset and timing of pubertal development.

McCune-Albright syndrome, a rare form of precocious puberty: Diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.

Introduction: McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is a genetic disorder defined by fibrous dysplasia of bone, café-au-lait skin spots, and autonomous hyperfunction of one or more endocrine organs. MAS is caused by activating mutations of the GNAS1 gene. The most frequent type of endocrinopathy is gonadal endocrinopathy in the form of peripheral precocious puberty.

[Menstrual cycle disorders in adolescence].

The high prevalence of menstrual disorders during the first years after menarche is well recognized. This is usually a cause of concern for parents and patients, and a common reason for visiting the pediatrician. The immaturity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis is the major cause of these disorders, but there are also some general organic or emotional conditions that may alter the menstrual cycle, which is a sensitive indicator of health.

Oral desmopressin treatment of central diabetes insipidus in children.

To assess the efficacy of treatment with oral desmopressin (DDAVP), 20 patients, aged 5-20 y, with central diabetes insipidus were studied during 3 d of hospitalization and for 3 months at the outpatient clinic. At baseline the median rate of diuresis was 12.7 ml kg-1 h-1.
