The Affordable Care Act includes a call for community health care workers (CHWs) to be integrated into health care delivery systems to improve health care quality. In recent years, there have been increasing calls for community-based participatory research (CBPR) and patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR), as such types of research hold much potential for identifying interventions to reduce health and health care disparities. Yet, little is known about the research training, knowledge, experience, and even interest of CHWs in these types of research or in health research in general (HR).

Article Synopsis
  • Cocaine use in clinical trials is often measured through self-reports or urine drug screens, both of which have limitations, prompting the need for more convenient monitoring solutions.
  • A new wearable device called MotionSense HRV is being developed to detect cocaine use unobtrusively, complementing an existing device, AutoSense, which requires wearing a chestband.
  • The study will involve 25 participants using both devices for two weeks, with drug use assessed via urine screens and self-reports to evaluate the feasibility of the wrist-worn technology.

Background: Recent evidence indicates that in addition to the T-cell receptor, microclustering is an important mechanism for the activation of the B-cell receptor and the mast cell Fcε-receptor. In macrophages and neutrophils, particles opsonized with immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies activate the phagocytic Fcγ-receptor (FcγR) leading to rearrangements of the actin cytoskeleton. The purpose of this study was to establish a system for high-resolution imaging of FcγR microclustering dynamics and the recruitment of the downstream signaling machinery to these microclusters.
