Background: Heat shock proteins (Hsp) act as intracellular chaperones and in addition are used as adjuvant in vaccines of peptides complexed with recombinant Hsp. By interacting with autologous peptides, Hsp may promote the induction of autoimmune reactivity.
Objective: Here, we analysed whether the effect of Hsp on macrophages is modulated by insulin peptides known to interact with Hsp.
Objectives: In this study, we analyzed the prognostic value of different MRI progression patterns for survival in patients with recurrent malignant glioma treated with the vascular endothelial growth factor antibody bevacizumab.
Patients And Methods: Twenty-six adult patients with recurrent malignant glioma treated with bevacizumab or bevacizumab/irinotecan were retrospectively analyzed for the development of contrast-enhanced (T1-weighted MRI) and T2/FLAIR lesions. According to the progression pattern, patients were divided into 3 subgroups: (1) patients with primarily progressive contrast-enhanced lesions in the first MRI after initiation of therapy ('primary PD group'); (2) patients with stable or regressive enhanced lesions but progressive FLAIR lesions ('FLAIR-only PD group'), and (3) patients with stable or regressive contrast-enhanced T1 and FLAIR lesions ('no PD group').
We report a now 74-year-old patient who was successfully treated with a methotrexate (MTX)-ssbased polychemotherapy protocol (Bonn protocol) for primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) in 1996. When presenting with an unusually late relapse after 13 years of tumor-free survival the diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical and radiological criteria. In the context of the very limited treatment options for recurrent PCNSL, it is reassuring that the re-application of high dose-MTX-based polychemotherapy, including intraventricular treatment, again succeeded in a sustained complete response with still low neurotoxicity.

Complexes of peptides with chaperones induce peptide-directed immunity. Here we analyzed the interaction of (pre)proinsulin with the best characterized chaperone of the hsp70 family, bacterial DnaK.
