Article Synopsis
  • The Community Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 Study conducted from January to August 2021 aimed to estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccine willingness across 15 US communities, using a population-based sampling method.
  • A total of 22,284 participants were surveyed, revealing a median infection prevalence of 12.9%, with noted disparities based on race; Black individuals had a higher infection rate by 3 percentage points compared to White individuals.
  • Vaccine willingness also varied, showing that Black individuals were 10 percentage points less willing to vaccinate than White individuals, and 7 percentage points less than individuals from other racial groups, indicating a correlation between lower vaccine willingness and higher infection rates within the Black

Background: Developing a safe and immunogenic vaccine against Zika virus remains an unmet medical need. We did two phase 1 studies that evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of two mRNA-based Zika virus vaccines (mRNA-1325 and mRNA-1893) in adults.

Methods: Two randomised, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging, multicentre, phase 1 trials, one of mRNA-1325 (mRNA-1325 trial) and one of mRNA-1893 (mRNA-1893 trial), were done.

Unlabelled: Chronic hepatitis C can lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. We studied the safety and immunogenicity of a novel therapeutic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1a/1b consensus DNA vaccine, INO-8000, encoding HCV NS3, NS4A, NS4B, and NS5A proteins alone or co-administered with DNA-encoding IL12 (INO-9012), a human cytokine that stimulates cellular immune function, in individuals with chronic hepatitis C. This was a phase I, multisite dose-escalation trial with an expansion cohort evaluating doses of 0, 0.

Article Synopsis
  • The methionine-valine polymorphic codon 129 of the prion protein gene (PRNP) is crucial in the development and expression of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD), influencing susceptibility and the types of prion strains that emerge.
  • Experiments using humanized transgenic mice isolated five prion strains which vary based on the conformations of the pathogenic prion proteins, with certain strains only found in specific codon 129 genotypes, including a new subtype identified in patients with the MV genotype.
  • A study identified six cases of sCJD in Catalonia and Italy showing unique clinical and neuropathological features that resemble the VV1 subtype, suggesting that these cases might

Aim: To evaluate concentrations of parabens (PBs) and benzophenones (BzPs) in menstrual blood and explore related sociodemographic/lifestyle factors, and to compare between menstrual and peripheral blood concentrations in a subset of samples.

Material And Methods: Concentrations of 4 PBs [methyl- (MeP), ethyl- (EtP), propyl- (PrP) and butyl-paraben (BuP)] and 6 BzPs [BzP-1, BzP-2, BzP-3, BzP-6, BzP-8 and 4-OH-BzP] were determined in menstrual blood from 57 women and in both menstrual and peripheral blood samples from 12 women, all healthy Spanish women of reproductive age. Socio-demographic characteristics and lifestyle habits [diet and use of cosmetics and personal care products (PCPs)] were gathered using an online questionnaire.
