The Santa Elina rock shelter in Central Brazil shows evidence of successive human settlements from around the last glacial maximum (LGM) to the Early Holocene. The refusal to go to school has been the subject of studies since the 19th century. It is necessary to separate the notions of truancy and school refusal, leaving that of anxiety-based school refusal. The aim of this cohort study conducted in France in 1997-1998 was to investigate the effects of antenatal anxiety and depression on spontaneous preterm labor. A consecutive series of 634 pregnant women with singleton pregnancies was included. Anxiety and depression were assessed using self-administered questionnaires: Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Edinburgh depression scale.

Recent reports have demonstrated that puerperal psychosis is preceded by prodromic signs. These signs must be recognized in a multidisciplinary context, opening the way to improved diagnosis, therapy and prognosis. On the basis of our clinical experience, we stress the important of early management in women who present prodromic signs of puerperal psychosis.
