Aperiodic spectral slope tracks the effects of brain state on saliency responses in the human auditory cortex.

Alteration of responses to salient stimuli occurs in a wide range of brain disorders and may be rooted in pathophysiological brain state dynamics. Specifically, tonic and phasic modes of activity in the reticular activating system (RAS) influence, and are influenced by, salient stimuli, respectively. The RAS influences the spectral characteristics of activity in the neocortex, shifting the balance between low- and high-frequency fluctuations.

Aperiodic (1/f) Neural Activity Robustly Tracks Symptom Severity Changes in Treatment-Resistant Depression.

Background: A reliable physiological biomarker for major depressive disorder is essential for developing and optimizing neuromodulatory treatment paradigms. In this study, we investigated a passive electrophysiologic biomarker that tracks changes in depressive symptom severity on the order of minutes to hours.

Methods: We analyzed brief recordings from intracranial electrodes implanted deep in the brain during a clinical trial of deep brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression in 5 human participants (n = 3, n = 2).

Proper reference selection and re-referencing to mitigate bias in single pulse electrical stimulation data.

Single pulse electrical stimulation experiments produce pulse-evoked potentials used to infer brain connectivity. The choice of recording reference for intracranial electrodes remains non-standardized and can significantly impact data interpretation. When the reference electrode is affected by stimulation or evoked brain activity, it can contaminate the pulse-evoked potentials recorded at all other electrodes and influence interpretation of findings.

Internal Overview of Prostatic Cancer Cases and Quality of and NGS Data from the FFPE Tissue.

Comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) has gained an important role in patients with advanced prostate cancer following the introduction of PARP inhibitors in daily clinical practice. Here, we report an overview of CGP results, specifically of BRCA1 and BRCA2 HRD-repair system genes, from patients with prostate cancer analyzed in our institution, and we compare our results with those available from more recent scientific literature. The study cohort consisted of 70 patients.
