Diatoms are among the most diverse and ecologically significant groups of photosynthetic microalgae, contributing over 20% of global primary productivity. Their ecological significance, unique biology, and genetic tractability make them ideal targets for genetic and genomic engineering and metabolic reprogramming. Over the past few decades, numerous genetic methods have been developed and applied to these organisms to better understand the function of individual genes and how they underpin diatom metabolism.

Some emerging research has indicated that intervention programmes using games can be beneficial for autistic youth, but little is currently known about why, how and for whom they work. This study conducted a realist evaluation of a programme using the video game "Minecraft" for autistic youth, comprising interviews and observations with autistic youth ( = 4), facilitators ( = 2) and caregivers ( = 6).

Here, a selective-area approach is presented to tune the work-function and carrier density in monolayer graphene by spatially synthesizing sub-monolayer gallium beneath the 2D-solid. The localized metallic gallium is formed via precipitation from an underlying diamond-like carbon (DLC) film that is spatially implanted with gallium-ions.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTemporoparietal brain areas comprise a candidate set of regions for interrogating the brain functional correlates of socioenvironmental factors in people at clinical high-risk for psychosis (CHR-P). Temporal lobe abnormalities have been shown to be common among people with schizophrenia spectrum conditions. Further, temporoparietal brain regions are implicated in tasks relevant to psychosocial outcomes, including coherent autobiographical memory recall and multimodal integration.
