A rare presentation: Brain abscess secondary to urinary tract infection.

Cerebral abscess due to hematogenous spread originating from a urinary infection is a rare condition. This clinical case involves an 80-year-old woman with a history of recurrent urinary infections. She presented to the emergency department with fever and altered consciousness.

SARS-CoV-2 Immunization Index in the Academic Community: A Retrospective Post-Vaccination Study.

Background/objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic has revolutionized vaccine production and compelled a massive global vaccination campaign. This study aimed to estimate the positivity and levels of SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies acquired due to vaccination and infection in the academic population of a Portuguese university.

Methods: Blood samples were collected and analyzed through the ELISA methodology, and statistical analysis was performed.

Comparative analysis of extracellular vesicles miRNAs (EV-miRNAs) and cell-free microRNAs (cf-miRNAs) reveals that EV-miRNAs are more promising as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for prostate cancer.

MicroRNAs can be found intracellularly incorporated into extracellular vesicles (EV-miRNAs) or extracellularly as cell-free miRNAs (cf-miRNAs). This study aimed to compare the diagnostic and prognostic potential of four miRNAs with recognized roles in prostate cancer as cf-miRNAs and EV-miRNAs, obtained from liquid biopsies (LB). Total RNA was isolated from whole plasma and plasma EVs from 15 controls (CTR) and 30 patients (20 with localized prostate cancer (PCa), 10 with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa)).

Microplanning workshops for high-quality vaccination in Brazil: an experience report, 2023.

Objective: To report the experience of workshops designed for action plans in microplanning vaccination in Brazilian states and municipalities.

Methods: This was a report on microplanning workshops aimed at mapping the local population, target population and identifying appropriate and effective vaccination actions. Vaccination actions were planned according to the reality of the municipalities using the microplanning method for high-quality vaccination activities.

Diagnostic and Prognostic/Therapeutic Significance of Comprehensive Analysis of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors Using Optical Genome Mapping and Next-generation Sequencing.

Detecting somatic structural variants (SVs), copy number variants (CNVs), and mutations in bone and soft tissue tumors is essential for accurately diagnosing, treating, and prognosticating outcomes. Optical genome mapping (OGM) holds promise to yield useful data on SVs and CNVs but requires fresh or snap-frozen tissue. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical utility of data from OGM compared to current standard-of-care cytogenetic testing.
