Background: Blood product constraints have increased the focus on inventory management as blood banks have faced challenges that impact supply chains and donor availability. Solutions often include a reduction in transfusion volumes through multidisciplinary improvements, but this is often coupled with a reduction in blood bank inventory to match reduced demand. We sought to improve inventory availability within the blood bank without modification of transfusion rates through solutions that prevented unnecessary RBC orders and crossmatching.

Prenatal substance use (PSU) is a serious perinatal health issue in the United States with consequential health effects. To address this issue and protect children from the detrimental effects of substance exposure during pregnancy, the US government amended the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act to provide funding to states with protocol to notify child protective services of PSU cases and develop treatment plans for affected families. Although well-intentioned, this statute resulted in diverse inter- and intrastate interpretations and implementation of PSU regulations nationwide, ultimately leading to mass confusion about who the policy applies to and when it should be applied.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the potential integration of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT, into healthcare decision-making, focusing on its alignment with expert consensus statements regarding the management of persistent pediatric obstructive sleep apnea.

Methods: We analyzed ChatGPT's responses to 52 statements from the 2024 expert consensus statement (ECS) on the management of pediatric persistent OSA after adenotonsillectomy. Each statement was input into ChatGPT using a 9-point Likert scale format, with each statement entered three times to calculate mean scores and standard deviations.

Social situations can present challenges for those looking to reduce or avoid eating meat. In an experimental vignette study with a large representative sample of 1,117 UK-based meat eaters, we explore affective responses to requests for vegetarian meals and perceptions of those making the request across four social situations: a BBQ, a pub, a restaurant dinner, and a dinner party. We examine moderators of these perceptions including whether the requester presents themselves as vegetarian or a meat restrictor and whether they cite health, environmental or no motives for their request.
