Owing to their exceptional mechanical, electronic, and phononic transport properties, compositionally complex alloys, including high-entropy alloys, represent an important class of materials. However, the interplay between chemical disorder and electronic correlations, and its influence on electronic structure-derived properties, remains largely unexplored. This is addressed for the archetypal CrMnFeCoNi alloy using resonant and valence band photoemission spectroscopy, electrical resistivity, and optical conductivity measurements, complemented by linear response calculations based on density functional theory.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA very sensitive electrochemical biosensor, with haemoglobin (Hb) as its basis, has been created to quantify hydrogen peroxide (HO), an essential marker in environmental monitoring, food safety, and medical diagnosis. The sensor uses a simple, eco-friendly preparation method. Hb was immobilised on manganese dioxide nanostructure/gold nanoparticles/poly-diallydimethylammonium chloride-functionalised multiwalled carbon nanotubes (PDDA-MWCNT/AuNP/MnO), characterised using various techniques: amperometry, voltammetry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTetrahydrolinalool (THL) is an acyclic monoterpene alcohol, produced during linalol metabolism and also a constituent of essential oils. As described in the literature, many monoterpenes present anticonvulsant properties, and thus we became interested in evaluating the anticonvulsant activity of Tetrahydrolinalool using in mice model as well as in silico approaches. Our results demonstrated that THL increased latency to seizure onset and also reduced the mortality, in picrotoxin induced seizure tests.

Here we report how the interfacing of STO and tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) results in a charge transfer that depletes the number of free carriers at the STO surface, with a strong impact on its electronic structure. Our study paves the way for efficient tuning of the electronic properties, which promises novel applications in the framework of oxide/organic-based electronics.

Determining the occurrence of Rickettsia spp. and Anaplasma phagocytophilum in municipalities with no case records is important to define surveillance strategies and is essential to reduce lethality in different regions. Therefore, an approach aimed at enhancing surveillance in municipalities with an unknown epidemiological situation was tested, according to the classification suggested by Resolution SMA/SES 07/01/16.
