Background: Automated external defibrillators can be life-saving in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Objective: Our aim was to review our experience of prescribing automated external defibrillators for children at increased risk of sudden arrhythmic death.

Methods: We reviewed all automated external defibrillators issued by the Scottish Paediatric Cardiac Electrophysiology Service from 2005 to 2015.

Comparison of nutrient intakes from two selected diet plans considered healthful versus the cutoff points for green lights as defined by the UK's multiple traffic light scheme.

This study compared nutrient intakes from 7-day menus for the US MyPlate and DASH Eating Plan versus the cutoff points for green lights defined by the UK's multiple traffic light (MTL) scheme. For both diets, the foods achieved green lights for saturated fat and salt, and for beverages for total fat, saturated fat and salt. The other nutrients achieved amber lights but were within the range of the two diets.

Individual patient level Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) are increasingly important in clinical practice. Web-based collection enables clinicians to remotely collect scores at regular intervals, away from the clinic setting. In this randomized crossover study, 47 patients, having undergone hip surgery, were allocated to two groups.

Audit-induced change reduces complications of the Ganz trochanteric flip approach.

Introduction: The Ganz trochanteric flip approach aims to avoid the potential risk of avascular necrosis in hip conserving surgery and may reduce the risk of femoral neck fractures, neck thinning and femoral head implant migration in hip resurfacing. Our initial audit revealed the complications of non-union and trochanteric screw irritation to be associated with this approach. We, therefore, modified our selection criteria and re-audited our results.
