This study explores a sustainable approach for synthesizing silver nanocomposites (AgNCs) with enhanced antimicrobial and bioactivity using safe Lactobacillus strains and a whey-based medium (WBM). WBM effectively supported the growth of Lactobacillus delbrueckii and Lactobacillus acidophilus, triggering a stress response that led to AgNCs formation. The synthesized AgNCs were characterized using advanced spectroscopic and imaging techniques such as UV‒visible, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, transmission electron (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-Edx).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the use of Garden cress seed extract (GRCE) in sodium alginate (SALG) films for bio-based food packaging, testing various concentrations (1%, 3%, and 5%) to assess their impact.
  • - GRCE is rich in phenolic compounds, notably gallic and chlorogenic acids, leading to significant increases in total phenolic content and antioxidant activities in the SALG films with higher GRCE concentrations.
  • - The incorporation of GRCE improved physical properties of the films, reduced water vapor permeability, and showed effectiveness in lowering the peroxide value of stored sunflower oil, indicating its potential as a functional food packaging material.

This study investigated the development of biodegradable films made from a combination of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and purified extract of broccoli sprout seed (BSSE). The films were characterized for their color, physical properties, surface morphology, crystallinity, mechanical properties, and thermal properties. The addition of BSSE up to 1.
