Prolonged Hypercupremia after Laparoscopic Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Successfully Treated with Oral Zinc.

A 30-year-old female underwent vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Postoperatively, hypercupremia and elevated ceruloplasmin were identified. Further testing revealed normal blood levels of transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, and albumin.

Extremity Vascular Injury Management: Good Outcomes Using Selective Referral to Vascular Surgeons.

Revascularization after extremity vascular injury has long been considered an important skill among trauma surgeons. Increasingly, some trauma surgeons defer vascular repair in response to training or practice patterns. This study was designed to document results of extremity revascularization surgery to evaluate trauma surgeon outcomes and judicious referral of more complex injuries to vascular surgeons (VAS).

The need for early angiography in patients with penetrating renal injuries.

Background: Renal injuries occur in as many as 10% of penetrating abdominal wounds. Today, these wounds are often managed selectively, but there is little contemporary information on the natural history of kidney injuries after penetrating trauma. The purpose of this study was to examine the clinical outcomes of penetrating injuries to the kidney, and to determine if these patients may benefit from routine early angiography.

Adolescents' descriptions of the physical characteristics of microbicide surrogates and experiences of use.

Purpose: Our purpose was to describe adolescent girls' perceptions of microbicide surrogates and experiences of use, including impact on sexual pleasure.

Methods: Sexually experienced girls, 14-21 years, were recruited for a study examining microbicide acceptability. The girls were given vaginal moisturizers (gel or suppository) to use as if they were microbicides.
