Biomass valorization and bio-based material development are of major research interest following the spirit of the circular economy. Aloe vera cultivation is a widespread agricultural activity oriented toward supplement production because of its well-known antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Aloe vera juice production also produces a large amount of biomass byproducts that are usually landfilled.

Immunotherapy has changed the treatment landscape for patients with cancer in the past decade. Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based therapies have proven effective in a range of malignancies, including liver and gastrointestinal cancers, but they can cause diverse off-target organ toxicities. With the increasingly wider application of these drugs, immune-mediated liver injury from ICIs has become a commonly encountered challenge in clinical hepatology and gastroenterology.

Modern bioeconomy and sustainability demands lead food technology in the development of novel biobased edible food preservatives. Herein, the development and characterization of novel polysaccharide (xanthan gum and kappa-carrageenan)-based nanoemulgels (NGs) enhanced with essential oil derivatives; pure citral (CT); pure carvacrol (CV); and various CT:CV ratios (25:75, 50:50, and 75:25) are presented. The obtained NGs are applied as active edible coatings for extending the shelf life of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) green table olives of Chalkidiki.

Although PI3K pathway alterations, such as PTEN loss, are common in HGSC, attempts to target this pathway have been unsuccessful. We hypothesized that aberrant PI3K pathway activation may alter the HGSC immune microenvironment and present a targeting opportunity.
