Article Synopsis
  • Metabolic flexibility in skeletal muscle is crucial for healthy glucose and lipid metabolism, and its dysfunction can lead to metabolic diseases.
  • Exercise improves metabolic flexibility and helps identify mechanisms that support metabolic health.
  • The study reveals that pantothenate kinase 4 (PanK4) is vital for muscle metabolism, as its deletion disrupts fatty acid oxidation and elevates harmful acetyl-CoA levels, which lead to glucose intolerance, while increasing PanK4 enhances glucose uptake and lowers acetyl-CoA.

Babassu (Atallea sp.), a native palm tree from South America's Amazon produces bio-oil and biochar with significant potential for industrial applications. Babassu oil as a bio-based plasticizer is reported here for the first time to replace petrochemical alternatives in the production of conductive filaments for additive manufacturing purposes.

The Transplant Evaluation Rating Scale (TERS) assesses the psychosocial risk of transplant candidates; however, its predictive value for outcomes in living-donor kidney transplant (LDKT) recipients remains unclear. This study evaluated the predictive power of the TERS for psychosocial outcomes in LDKT recipients over two years post-transplant. In this prospective single-center cohort study, 107 LDKT recipients completed assessments pre-transplant (T0), 6 months post-transplant (T1), and 24 months post-transplant (T2).

The present studies were undertaken to understand the effects of the commonly used nutraceutical PEA on brain function and lipid chemistry. These studies using MRI and broad-scale lipidomics are without precedent in animal or human research. During the MRI scanning session awake rats were given one of three doses of PEA (3, 10, or 30 mg/kg) or vehicle and imaged for changes in BOLD signal and functional connectivity.

Introduction: Sarcopenia is associated with poor clinical outcomes in chronic diseases. Our study aimed to characterize body composition (BC) parameters in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and compare skeletal muscle mass (SMM) parameters with the healthy pediatric population.

Methods: BC of healthy controls (HC) and of patients with IBD were measured via multifrequency bioelectrical impedance (InBody 720 device) in a cross-sectional manner.
