Serum Estrogen and its Soluble Receptor Levels in Egyptian Patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: A Case-Control Study.

Unlabelled: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder. CML cells contain a BCR-ABL gene, not typically found in normal cells that produce a protein (BCR-ABL) causing CML cells to proliferate. CML occurs in three phases: chronic, accelerated and blast crisis.

Identifying Leukemia-associated Immunophenotypes in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients Using Multiparameter Flow Cytometry.

Objectives: We sought to identify leukemia-associated immunophenotypes (LAIPs) in 50 acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients at diagnosis using an eight-color multiparameter flow cytometry (MFC) panel and to detect if they showed any alteration in relapsed/refractory cases.

Methods: We used the eight-color MFC panel with CD45/side scatter log gating strategy to analyze LAIPs in 50 AML patients presenting to Alexandria University Hospitals, Egypt at diagnosis and relapse and refractory cases. Twenty age and sex matched bone marrow samples from patients performing bone marrow aspirate for non-malignant hematological indications were included as controls.

PD-1 and PD-L1 gene expressions and their association with Epstein-Barr virus infection in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Purpose: The  PD-1 (programmed cell death-1) receptor is expressed on the surface of activated T cells. Its ligand, programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1), is expressed on the surface of dendritic cells or macrophages. The PD-1/PD-L1 interaction ensures prevention of autoimmunity by activating the immune system only when needed.
