MRI allows brain anatomy to be examined at high resolution and to link pathology measures with morphometric measurements. However, automated segmentation methods for brain mapping in postmortem MRI are not well developed, primarily due to limited availability of labeled datasets, and heterogeneity in scanner hardware and acquisition protocols. In this work, we present a high-resolution dataset of 135 postmortem human brain tissue specimens imaged at 0.

Beginning in late 2023, Oropouche virus was identified as the cause of large outbreaks in Amazon regions with known endemic transmission and in new areas in South America and the Caribbean. The virus is spread to humans by infected biting midges and some mosquito species. Although infection typically causes a self-limited febrile illness, reports of two deaths in patients with Oropouche virus infection and vertical transmission associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes have raised concerns about the threat of this virus to human health.

Background: Endometriosis, a systemic chronic inflammatory condition which has no cure, has a high symptom burden that can negatively impact every facet of life. Given the absence of a gold-standard treatment, the best symptom management regimen in endometriosis is heavily reliant on a patient's values and preferences, making shared decision-making (SDM) vital. However, a comprehensive patient decision aid (PtDA) intervention that could facilitate patient decision-making and promote SDM is lacking in endometriosis, and there is little research on the decisional support needs of individuals with this condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast augmentation with silicone implants can lead to rare complications like implant rupture and silicone migration through the lymphatic system, which can result in granulomas forming in distant sites.
  • A case study detailed a 56-year-old woman with eye movement issues and diagnosed enlarged eye muscles and lymph nodes, along with a ruptured silicone breast implant, ultimately revealing silicone granulomas through biopsies.
  • The case highlights the need for awareness of silicone granulomas in patients with silicone implants, especially when they present with orbital lesions, as silicone may spread through both lymphatic and blood routes.

Article Synopsis
  • Inflammation is crucial for defense but has negative effects on bodily functions, and how it is monitored is not fully understood.
  • Acidic tissue environments are linked to inflammation, and this research shows that macrophages can detect acidic pH to adjust their inflammatory responses.
  • The study identifies BRD4 as a pH sensor in macrophages, and highlights the role of intracellular acidification in regulating gene transcription related to inflammation, suggesting a mechanism for controlling the inflammatory response.
