Challenges of the public health response to a rare case of non-autochthonous , Ireland, 2024.

This case report details the public health response to a multibacillary leprosy case in Ireland. The case presented with hypopigmented skin lesions and neurological symptoms. Challenges included delayed recognition in the clinical setting, contact tracing within a congregate setting and lack of specific Irish guidelines.

A Framework for ExacTrac Dynamic Commissioning for Stereotactic Radiosurgery and Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy.

This paper aims to provide guidance and a framework for commissioning tests and tolerances for the ExacTrac Dynamic image-guided and surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT) system. ExacTrac Dynamic includes a stereoscopic X-ray system, a structured light projector, stereoscopic cameras, thermal camera for SGRT, and has the capability to track breath holds and internal markers. The system provides fast and accurate image guidance and intrafraction guidance for stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic ablative radiotherapy.

Nebulized Mesenchymal Stem Cell Derived Conditioned Medium Retains Antibacterial Properties Against Clinical Pathogen Isolates.

Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) have demonstrated promise in pathogenic acute respiratory distress syndrome models and are advancing to clinical efficacy testing. Besides immunomodulatory effects, MSC derived conditioned medium (CM) has direct antibacterial effects, possibly through LL-37 and related secreted peptide activity. We investigated MSC-CM compatibility with vibrating mesh technology, allowing direct delivery to the infected lung.

Oropharyngeal dysphagia among patients newly discharged to nursing home care after an episode of hospital care.

Background: Oropharyngeal dysphagia (OPD) is a common but under-recognized problem among older residents in nursing homes. If not detected and properly managed, it is a risk factor for failure to thrive and aspiration pneumonia. Discharge to nursing home from hospital may provide an opportunity for detection and subsequent management.

Outcomes after mechanical aortic valve replacement in children and young adults with congenital heart disease.

Objectives: There are little recent data on the outcomes of mechanical aortic valve replacement (AVR) in children and young adults with congenital aortic valve disease. We sought to review the survival and associated thromboembolic or bleeding complications after mechanical AVR at a single center.

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected for 121 patients undergoing prosthetic AVR from 2000 to 2014.
