Successful reversal of intestinal obstruction by PRRT: two case reports and literature review of PRRT in Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors with mesenteric fibrosis.

Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) typically follow an indolent disease course and are often accompanied by mesenteric lymph node metastases upon diagnosis. These tumors can incite a fibroblastic reaction within the mesenteric root. Here, we present two cases of patients with symptomatic small bowel obstruction due to such mesenteric involvement.

Role of the two-component system AmgRS in early resistance of to cinnamaldehyde.

Exposure of to cinnamaldehyde (CNA), a natural electrophilic antimicrobial often used as self-medication to treat mild infections, triggers overproduction of the MexAB-OprM efflux system, leading to multidrug resistance. In this study, we demonstrate that CNA exposure induces expression of genes regulated by the two-component system AmgRS. AmgRS activates MexAB-OprM production, independent of repressors MexR and NalD.

Thioether-Functionalized Cellulose for the Fabrication of Oxidation-Responsive Biomaterial Coatings and Films.

Biomaterial coatings and films can prevent premature failure and enhance the performance of chronically implanted medical devices. However, current hydrophilic polymer coatings and films have significant drawbacks, including swelling and delamination. To address these issues, hydroxyethyl cellulose is modified with thioether groups to generate an oxidation-responsive polymer, HEC.

Sarcopenia in patients receiving TIPS is independently associated with increased risk of complications and mortality.

Background: Sarcopenia is an acknowledged risk factor for individuals with chronic liver disease, however, the influence on outcomes in patients receiving transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) remains underexplored.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the association between sarcopenia and incidence of complications and mortality post-TIPS.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 175 patients who underwent TIPS between 2011-2021 at a Belgian tertiary care center.
