Background: This study aimed to define the rate of progression of radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) of the canine hip joint and to describe factors affecting this progression.

Methods: Dogs that underwent unilateral total hip replacement (THR) were reviewed for the evaluation of radiographic appearance of the non-operated hip joint over time. Standard extended ventrodorsal hip radiographs were taken preoperatively and postoperatively.

Particulate matter (PM) air pollution is an environmental risk to public health. The prevalence of thyroid disease during pregnancy has increased rapidly in recent decades, but the available data on the relationships among air pollution, thyroid function, and birth outcomes in pregnant women, particularly in China, are scarce. We aimed to evaluate the association between maternal exposure to PM and its components and maternal and neonatal thyroid function and to investigate whether thyroid function acts as a mediator between air pollution and birth weight.

The peer relations of pupils with special educational needs in mainstream primary schools: The importance of meaningful contact and interaction with peers.

Background And Aims: Children with special educational needs (SEN) are generally less accepted by peers in school and have fewer friendships than those without SEN. However, little research has examined peer relations across multiple dimensions, relative to severity of need and in relation to classroom experiences and individual behavioural characteristics. This unique study aimed to extend understanding of the peer relations of pupils with differing levels of SEN support relative to children of differing attainment levels without a formally recognized SEN and in relation to levels of social contact in class and teacher ratings of behaviour.

Atypical lateral tracheal collapse in a Yorkshire terrier.

A 10-month-old, neutered female Yorkshire terrier was presented with a 6-month history of inspiratory dyspnoea, coughing and exercise intolerance. Tracheoscopy revealed marked lateral-to-lateral fixed collapse of the cervical trachea and mild collapse of the thoracic trachea. Surgical exploration revealed a marked reduction in lateral tracheal width and multiple malformed tracheal rings.
