Background: Bacterial infections such as osteomyelitis and endocarditis routinely require several weeks of treatment with intravenous (IV) antimicrobials. Outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) programs allow patients to receive IV antimicrobials in an outpatient clinic or at home.
