Esophageal and gastric cancer are diseases with a serious prognosis. While the incidence of gastric cancer is decreasing, the incidence of the gastroesophageal junction and esophageal cancer is increasing. Men are affected more often than women.

Association of Smaller Intercondylar Notch Size With Graft Failure After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

Background: Smaller intercondylar notch sizes have been consistently associated with a predisposition for primary anterior cruciate ligament tears.

Purpose: To evaluate the association between intercondylar notch size, graft size, and postoperative complications, including knee stiffness and return to the operating room, after primary anatomic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR).

A Data Set of Signals from an Antenna for Detection of Partial Discharges in Overhead Insulated Power Line.

We introduce a data set obtained via a contactless antenna method for detecting partial discharges in XLPE-covered conductors used in medium-voltage overhead power transmission lines. The data set consists of almost three years' worth of data, collected every hour from 9 measuring stations in Czechia and Slovakia. Each sample in the data set represents a single signal gathered for 20 ms.

Patient Satisfaction Determinants of Inpatient Healthcare.

The aim of the study was to analyse and evaluate the determinants influencing the overall satisfaction of patients with inpatient healthcare in the conditions of the Czech Republic. A total of the 1425 patients, who experienced hospitalisation and agreed to participate, were questioned in the study. A research questionnaire was used to obtain data on satisfaction with hospitalisation.

The Reducing Hospital Costs through Horizontal Integration.

Background: This paper investigated the impact of hospitals' horizontal integration in the Czech Republic on the cost behavior. The aim of the research was to examined the hospitals costs in specific environment of region hospitals at NUTS 3 level (Nomenclature of Units for Territorial Statistics) - Administrative Regions.

Methods: The survey was conducted in the period from April to August 2016 in the Czech Republic.

[Syncope as first and only sign of left atrial myxoma].

Myxoma is the most frequent primary heart tumor. It is localised in the left atrium in majority of cases, but each of heart chambers may be affected. Left atrial myxoma becomes symptomatic in case it leads into mitral valve obstruction, systemic embolisation or it manifests with unspecific systemic symptoms.

Thromboembolic disease and present oral contraception.

Since their introduction, oral contraceptives have been linked to an increased incidence of thromboembolic events. Epidemiologic studies have shown that women who use third-generation oral contraceptives containing desogestrel, gestodene, or norgestimate have a higher risk of venous thrombosis than women who use second-generation oral contraceptives containing levonorgestrel. Women who use oral contraceptives are significantly less sensitive to activated protein C.

[Elevated levels of plasma von Willebrand factor: a new risk factor for atherosclerosis?].

The authors assessed the plasma level of von Willebrand's factor in a total of 104 patients aged 32-60 years. Of these 10 patients are free from confirmed ischaemic heart disease with no history of acute myocardial infarction and 94 patients after acute myocardial infarction. Samplings for von Willebrand's factor in patients after acute myocardial infarction were made at least two months after the infarction.

[Infectious endocarditis--new aspects of a well-known disease].

The authors discuss the incidence, etiology and pathogenesis of infectious endocarditis. They mention the incidence and therapeutic results in patients with infectious endocarditis hospitalized at the First Medical Clinic in Martin in 1988-1993. In the conclusion they present general principles of the treatment of infectious endocarditis.

[The effect of quinidine on digoxin plasma levels after discontinuation of digoxin therapy].

The authors submit a report on the effect of quinidine on plasma digoxin. The investigation was made in 20 patients wit supraventricular dysrhythmia. After initial digoxin treatment they proceeded with quinidine six hours after the last digoxin dose.
