Over the last two decades, advancements in structural resolution and spectral characterization have significantly enhanced our understanding of photosynthesis. However, the complexity of photosystem (PS) supercomplexes still presents challenges. In the reaction center (RSRC), the charge separation process begins with a charge-transfer (CT) step at the special pair (P), a dimer of bacteriochlorophyll a (BChl), which acts as the donor, and continues with electron transport through the active pigments.

The intricate role of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in regulating cardiac physiology has long been recognized. Aberrant function of the ANS is central to the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases. It stands to reason, therefore, that neuroscience-based cardiovascular therapeutics hold great promise in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in humans.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising materials for gas adsorption; however, only a small number of COFs has been studied for a few types of gas separations to date. To unlock the full potential of the COF space, composed of 69 784 different types of materials, we studied the adsorption of five important gas molecules, CO, CH, H, N, and O in COFs at various pressures combining high-throughput molecular simulations and machine learning. Adsorbent performances of COFs were then explored for industrially critical separations, such as CO/CH, CO/H, CO/N, CH/H, CH/N, and O/N.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has emerged as a noninvasive therapy for treatment resistant depression (TRD). The results of studies on the mechanism of rTMS and the predictive parameters for determining which patients will respond to rTMS are inconclusive. This study aims to investigate the relationship between pre-treatment systemic inflammatory markers and the response to rTMS in TRD patients.

Purpose: Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a common cause of cardiovascular mortality with an increasing incidence rate. Scoring patients with suspected pulmonary thromboembolism according to their symptoms, findings, and risk factors is useful for empirical diagnosis and management. The combination of D-dimer and clinical scoring allows the diagnosis to be excluded in approximately 30% of patients with suspected PTE without the need for imaging methods.

Background: One of the most significant long-term toxicities of breast cancer radiotherapy is major adverse cardiac events (MACE). In current radiotherapy practice, the mean heart dose is the most commonly used parameter. The aim of our study was to reduce the doses of organs at risk (OAR) in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and left ventricle (LV) by including the LAD and LV in planning radiotherapy while maintaining adequate dose coverage for patients with left-sided breast cancer.

Rivers across the world are increasingly fragmented due to anthropogenic barriers, with the restoration of connectivity often using fish passes. Fish passes are, however, usually designed for anadromous species, despite ecologically important non-anadromous species being present in the communities impacted by fragmentation. To assess the outcomes for non-anadromous fishes of the installation of multiple fish passes and weir modifications, the movements of the potamodromous European barbel Barbus barbus were evaluated in the lower River Severn basin, western Britain, which was fragmented by six weirs (two on a tributary, four on the Severn mainstem).

The development of microcirculation imaging devices has significantly advanced our comprehension of the capillary environment's dynamics. Early research suggested that erythrocytes did not contact the vessel's inner surface due to the Fåhraeus effect, implying the presence of a covering on the endothelial cell surface. Subsequent electron microscopy studies revealed this layer to be a complex part of the vessel wall, now known as the endothelial glycocalyx (EG).

Vitiligo is a generally asymptomatic acquired depigmentation disorder, limiting the utility of general dermatology quality of life (QoL) scales that may not adequately reflect the psychosocial burden experienced by patients. The aim of our study was to translate the vitiligo-specific quality-of-life instrument (VitiQoL) with maximum score of 90, into Turkish language, and to culturally adapt and validate it for use in the Turkish population. The VitiQoL was initially cross‑culturally adapted to Turkish through forward‑backward translation.

Cardioneuroablation (CNA) is emerging as an appealing therapeutic option for patients with vasovagal reflex syncope. This review examines key aspects of CNA, including patient selection, procedural aspects and mid-term effects. We critically evaluate procedural results from recent studies and address ongoing challenges, such as the need for standardized procedural protocols and harmonized postprocedural data collection.

: Preeclampsia (PE) is among the causes of serious morbidity and mortality for the mother and fetus. The most common consequences of intrauterine hypoxemia in the newborn are intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), premature labor, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and perinatal death. The systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI), which is used as an indicator of inflammation, can be used to examine the effect of the immune status of babies of PE mothers on their prognosis.

Therapeutic resistance to immune checkpoint blockade has been commonly linked to the process of mesenchymal transformation (MT) and remains a prevalent obstacle across many cancer types. An improved mechanistic understanding for MT-mediated immune evasion promises to lead to more effective combination therapeutic regimens. Herein, we identified the Hedgehog transcription factor, GLI2, as a key node of tumor-mediated immune evasion and immunotherapy resistance during MT.

This study investigated the effects of voluntary and involuntary/regular exercise on neurotrophic factors in the brain, cognitive functions, and anxiety in socially isolated adolescent male rats. In this study, 42 adolescent male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into six groups: control (C), socially isolated (SI), voluntary exercise (VE), regular exercise (RE), socially isolated + voluntary exercise (SI-VE), and socially isolated + regular exercise (SI-RE). Socially isolated groups were kept in separate cages for 4 weeks.

Introduction: The quality of coronary anastomoses is one of the important parameters that may affect graft patency in coronary artery bypass grafting patients. Therefore, we compared two different anastomotic techniques to improve graft flow and patency rates.

Methods: This study was conducted by performing two different fashions of anastomosis with a human saphenous vein graft on 24 various coronary segments of five postmortem porcine hearts.

Inflammation-induced oligodendrocyte death and CNS demyelination are key features of multiple sclerosis (MS). Inflammation-triggered endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and oxidative stress promote tissue damage in MS and in its preclinical animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE). Compound AA147 is a potent activator of the ATF6 signaling arm of the unfolded protein response (UPR) that can also induce antioxidant signaling through activation of the NRF2 pathway in neuronal cells.

Background: Mature oral feeding is a complex function involving numerous muscles and nerves, typically developing between the postmenstrual age of 34-36 weeks in newborn infants. The objective of this study was to analyze the oral feeding skills of healthy late preterm, early term, and full-term infants using a neonatal oral feeding monitor.

Methods: We used the oral feeding parameters reported by NeoSAFE which is a certified medical device, to assess the swallowing and swallow-respiration coordination in newborn infants.

Renal pelvis urine density (RPUD), as measured by computed tomography (CT), may serve as an effective predictor for pyonephrosis. Our objective was to evaluate the correlation between the likelihood of developing infectious complications post-retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and RPUD measurements obtained from preoperative CT scans. We retrospectively reviewed data from patients who underwent RIRS for kidney stone treatment at a tertiary care facility between June 2017 and June 2024, using the hospital's database.
