Background: Resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is widespread among Acinetobacter strains. Plasmid-mediated metallo beta lactamases (MBL) are responsible for carbapenem resistance, as are oxacillinases (OXA). In recent years, MBL producing carbapenem-resistant strains have been reported in the world and in Turkey in increasing rates.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effects of normalizing blood glucose levels on vitamin D (25 OH Vit D) and procalcitonin (PCT) levels in patients with acute hyperglycemia.
  • Serum 25(OH)D levels increased and PCT levels decreased in all patients after their blood glucose was normalized, suggesting a possible connection between glucose control and these biomarkers.
  • The observed changes in vitamin D and PCT were consistent across different types of diabetes and in patients with or without infections, prompting the need for more research on their interactions and implications for inflammation.
