Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare and aggressive type of lymphoma, particularly affecting HIV-positive and immunocompromised individuals, with a median diagnosis age of 49 years. Cases of this malignancy in HIV-negative individuals are less common and rarely involve the bone marrow. While traditional chemotherapy regimens such as cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (CHOP) were previously utilized in the management of such malignancy, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network currently recommends more intensive approaches.

Spinal cord hemangiomas are rare vascular malformations that can cause neurological deficits. We report a case of a 57-year-old male who previously underwent spondylolisthesis reduction for treatment of a 30% (1 cm) anterolisthesis of L4-L5 with continued neurological deficit post-operatively. The patient still reported bilateral lower extremity weakness, and he was found to have an additional ovoid intramedullary lesion at the T2-T3 level, pathologically consistent with a hemangioma.

Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysms (IAAA) are a distinct subcategory of abdominal aortic aneurysms that make up roughly 5%-10% of all abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) cases. Inflammatory AAA (IAAA) is distinguished from traditional atherosclerotic AAA by the triad of thickened aneurysm wall, extensive perianeurysmal/retroperitoneal fibrosis, and dense adhesions of adjacent abdominal organs. The purpose of this report is to examine the clinical course of a rare case of inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm with aortocaval fistula.

Chitosan (CS) is only soluble in weak acid medium, thereby limiting its wide utilisation in the field of biomedicine, food, and agriculture. In this report, we present a method for preparing water-soluble CS oligosaccharides (COSs) at high concentration (∼10%, w/v) via the oxidative hydrolysis of CS powder with molecular weight (Mw) ∼90,000 g/mol) in 2% HO solution at ambient temperature by a two-step process, namely, the heterogeneous hydrolysis step and homogeneous hydrolysis step. The resultant COSs were characterised by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H NMR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy.

Lymphomas are the most common nonepithelial malignancy in the head and neck region. Among these, non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) is the most prevalent, and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common histologic subtype. NHL is known for its propensity for extranodal involvement, which can affect any anatomical location.

Background: Despite recent reductions in Vietnam, malaria transmission persists in some areas in forests and farmlands where a high density of Anopheles mosquitoes relative to other environments occurs. To inform effective malaria control measures, it is important to understand vector bionomics and the malaria transmission role of Anopheles spp. in the highland regions of Vietnam.

Adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (aGPCRs) are a large GPCR class that direct diverse fundamental biological processes. One prominent mechanism for aGPCR agonism involves autoproteolytic cleavage, which generates an activating, membrane-proximal tethered agonist (TA). How universal this mechanism is for all aGPCRs is unclear.

In this study, silver-immobilized graphene oxide/chitosan (AGC/CTS) membranes were assembled by the solvent evaporation method, wherein Curcuma longa extract was used to synthesize silver-immobilized graphene oxide (AGC) nanocomposite. The characterization results showed that the AGC was successfully synthesized with AgNPs distributed quite evenly on GO sheets. The as-prepared AGC also exhibited high antibacterial activity and low cytotoxicity towards normal cell lines compared to human epithelial carcinoma cell lines.

This paper aims to investigate the direct and indirect effects of financial development on CO2 emissions, using a global sample of 100 countries from 1990 - 2012. Our main contribution to the literature lies in the identification and explanation of possible transmission channels that allow financial development to affect environmental quality. The paper employs 2SLS and 3SLS estimators to investigate these channels.

Background: Despite great success in significantly reducing the malaria burden in Viet Nam over recent years, the ongoing presence of malaria vectors and Plasmodium infection in remote forest areas and among marginalised groups presents a challenge to reaching elimination and a threat to re-emergence of transmission. Often transmission persists in a population despite high reported coverage of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), the mainstay control method for malaria. To investigate what factors may contribute to this, a mixed-methods study was conducted in Son Thai commune, a community in south-central Viet Nam that has ongoing malaria cases despite universal LLIN coverage.

A photometric detector based on eight different light-emitting diodes covering the ultraviolet range from 255 nm to 350 nm is described. These are coupled with fused silica optical fibres to a conventional cuvette with 1 cm optical path length or to a low volume flow through cell for detection in high-performance liquid chromatography. Photodiodes are employed for the measurement of the transmitted intensity as well as of a reference signal and the photocurrents are processed with a log-ratio amplifier to obtain a voltage proportional to absorbance values.

Clinical narratives (the text notes found in patients' medical records) are important information sources for secondary use in research. However, in order to protect patient privacy, they must be de-identified prior to use. Manual de-identification is considered to be the gold standard approach but is tedious, expensive, slow, and impractical for use with large-scale clinical data.

Objectives: Data extraction from original study reports is a time-consuming, error-prone process in systematic review development. Information extraction (IE) systems have the potential to assist humans in the extraction task, however majority of IE systems were not designed to work on Portable Document Format (PDF) document, an important and common extraction source for systematic review. In a PDF document, narrative content is often mixed with publication metadata or semi-structured text, which add challenges to the underlining natural language processing algorithm.

A new absorbance detector for capillary electrophoresis featuring relatively high intensity light-emitting diodes as radiation sources and photodiodes for the deep-UV range was developed. The direct relationship of absorbance values and concentrations was obtained by emulating Lambert-Beer's law with the application of a beam splitter to obtain a reference signal and a log-ratio amplifier circuitry. The performance of the cell was investigated at 255 nm with the detection of sulfanilic, 4-nitrobenzoic, 4-hydroxybenzoic and 4-aminobenzoic acid and the indirect detection of acetate, propionate, butyrate and caproate using benzoate as the displacement dye molecule.
