The intestine of one alligator from Alabama was infected by Dracovermis occidentalis Brooks and Overstreet, 1978 (Platyhelminthes: Digenea: Liolopidae Odhner, 1912), a seldom collected and incompletely described trematode that lacks a representative nucleotide sequence. Liolopidae comprises 5 genera and 15 species: Liolope spp.

White mullets were cast-netted from the mouth of Deer River, a coastal saltmarsh of Mobile Bay, in the north-central Gulf of Mexico and examined for blood fluke infections. Methods: We applied quality improvement methodology to develop a more reliable and accurate system to identify patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and track important measures that aide in improving patient care and performance outcomes. From 2019 to 2021, we iteratively modified our outpatient clinic EHR note to include structured data elements to improve longitudinal monitoring.

This caballerotrematid can be differentiated from its congeners by the following combination of morphological features: body surface spines forming contiguous transverse rows, concentric (wrapping dorso-ventrally around body), distributing into posterior body half (vs.

These flukes were fixed for morphology and preserved for DNA extraction. We assigned our specimens to DendritobilharziaSkrjabin and Zakharow, 1920 because they were strongly dorso-ventrally flattened in both sexes and had an intestinal cyclocoel with a zig-zag common cecum with lateral dendritic ramifications, numerous testes posterior to the cyclocoel and flanking the dendritic ramifications, and a tightly compacted convoluted ovary as well as lacking an oral sucker, ventral sucker, and gynaecophoric canal.

We examined the heart of three African sharptooth catfish, Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) Teugles, 1982 from the Kavango River (northeastern Namibia) that was infected with adults of N. dentata.

Lifestyle-induced weight loss has been shown to increase spontaneous conception rate, improve rates of fertility intervention complications, and decrease pregnancy comorbidities. However, the definitive role of assisting weight loss with medication prior to pregnancy remains to be established.

We herein surveyed silver carp from Barkley Reservoir and Cheatham Reservoir (Cumberland River, Tennessee; June and December 2021) and the White River (Arkansas; May 2022) and collected numerous monogenoid specimens infecting the pores on the outer face of the gill raker plate. We heat-killed, formalin-fixed, and routinely stained some specimens for morphology and preserved others in 95% ethanol for DNA extraction and sequencing of the large subunit ribosomal DNA (28S).

Despite extensive efforts in research and public education, rates of sleep-related infant death have plateaued since the late-1990s, largely due to unsafe sleep practices and environments.
Local Problem: A multidisciplinary team assessed our institution's compliance with its own infant safe sleep policy.
Objectives: The aim of this work was to identify the long-term risk associated with prediabetes and developing subsequent cardiac events in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) at a tertiary health-care centre.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed patients admitted with ACS between January and December 2013. Two hundred thirty patients with prediabetes were matched to a comparison cohort of patients with no diabetes based on age, sex, and diagnosis code of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems---10th revision.
The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) operates within adipose tissue. Obesity-related changes can affect adipose RAS, predisposing to hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and possibly severe COVID-19. We evaluated the research on human adipose RAS and identified gaps in the literature.

While home health agencies (HHAs) can seek accreditation to recognize their quality of service, it is unknown whether agencies with accreditation perform better in providing care than those without accreditation. Using 5-year data from national data sources, the aims of this study were: 1) to depict characteristics of HHAs with and without accreditation; and 2) to examine the relationship between accreditation status and HHA performance on quality-of-care metrics. This study analyzed 7,697 agencies in the US and found that 1) agencies that were for-profit, urban, not-hospital-affiliated, single-branch, Medicare enrolled only, and without hospice program were more likely to have accreditation; and 2) overall, accredited agencies performed better on the three commonly used quality indicators, timely initiation of care, hospitalization, and emergency department visit, though not all the observed differences were substantial in absolute value.

These specimens were morphologically indistinguishable from each other and from MacCallum's holotype and paratypes. Those sequenced had identical first internal transcribed spacer (ITS1) and large subunit ribosomal DNA (28S) nucleotide sequences.
