Prospective Evaluation of Serum Free Thiols in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Candidate to Replace C-Reactive Protein for Disease Activity Assessment?

Background: Serum free thiols (SFTs) reflecting oxidative stress appear to correlate with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) activity. We aimed to evaluate the performance of SFTs concentrations vs endoscopic and histological activity, compare SFTs with established biomarkers, and identify clinical and laboratory parameters independently associated with SFT levels in IBD patients.

Methods: Patients with confirmed IBD undergoing routine ileocolonoscopy for activity assessment were prospectively recruited, with serum samples obtained concurrently for SFTs and routine bloods, plus fecal calprotectin and immunochemical tests were collected ±30 days from ileocolonoscopy.

In this study, near-field electrospinning was used to prepare a new poly(vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF)/Ag nanoparticle (AgNP)/MXene composite nanofiber film as a self-powered flexible human motion-sensing device. The composite film displayed highly piezoelectric properties with the presence of MXene.

Intravascular Hemolysis in Aluminum Phosphide Poisoning.

Unlabelled: Hemolysis associated with aluminum phosphide poisoning is very rare. Intravascular hemolysis in presence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency has been reported rarely in literature. We are reporting a case of young male patient with history of aluminum phosphide poisoning and complicated with intravascular hemolysis without G6PD deficiency.

Intraosseous Leiomyoma of the Mandible: A Case Report of the Rare Entity and Review of Literature.

Mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) gene SCN1A, encoding the Na1.1 channel, are responsible for a number of epilepsy disorders including genetic epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (GEFS+) and Dravet syndrome (DS). Patients with SCN1A mutations often experience prolonged early-life febrile seizures (FSs), raising the possibility that these events may influence epileptogenesis and lead to more severe adult phenotypes.

Haemophilia is a common cause of genetically inherited bleeding disorders. Pseudotumours occur in 1-2 % of persons with severe forms of haemophilia.
