Objectives: Acceleration of the haemostasis process after dermatological surgery predominantly relies on mechanical methods, such as the use of sutures or staples. To our knowledge, there is currently no commercialised haemostatic agent for this specific application. Due to the protein precipitation properties of the 50% (w/v) aluminium chloride hexahydrate solution, its physicochemical stability and maintenance of sterility over a 6 month period were assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • MGUS-associated angioedema due to acquired C1 inhibitor deficiency (AAE-C1-INH) hasn't been specifically characterized before, prompting this study to explore its biological and clinical features over 30 years in France.
  • In a study of 41 patients, most had anti-C1INH antibodies, and treatments included acute management and long-term prophylaxis, with a significant number developing malignant blood disorders like lymphoma or myeloma.
  • The study found a link between the remission of angioedema and the underlying hematological malignancy, emphasizing the need for regular hematological evaluations in patients with MGUS-AE-C1-INH.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic intensely involved pharmacists in France, with new responsibilities on a large scale, introducing to dispensary practice the performance of vaccination and nasopharyngeal swabs. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of burnout, anxiety, and depression in pharmacists after the COVID-19 health crisis and to identify factors associated with psychological distress.

Methods: A cross-sectional observational study involved 1700 pharmacies in an entire French region.

Background: Necrobiosis lipoidica located to the breast; without evidence of glucose intolerance, is extremely rare, and its association to Crohn's disease is not usual.

Case Presentation: We report an interesting case of an association of necrobiosis lipoidica of the breast and Crohn's disease in a 54-year-old Moroccan woman. Skin necrobiotic changes are a characteristic feature in necrobiosis lipoidica, but they are exceptional in metastatic Crohn's disease, since there are only three published cases of necrobiotic skin lesions on the lower leg resembling erythema nodosum in metastatic Crohn's disease.

Background: Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) type D (LyP D) and type E (LyP E) have recently been described in small series of cases or isolated case reports.

Aim: To further describe the clinical and histological features of LyP D and E based on a retrospective multicentre study.

Methods: The clinical and histopathological features of 29 patients with an initial diagnosis of LyP D or LyP E were retrospectively assessed using standardized forms.

Sarcoidosis is a multi-system disease of unknown etiology characterized by the formation of granulomas in various organs. It affects people of all ethnic backgrounds and occurs at any time of life but is more frequent in African Americans and Scandinavians and in adults between 30 and 50 years of age. Sarcoidosis can affect any organ with a frequency varying according to ethnicity, sex and age.

Insulin is one of the standard components used to culture primary neurospheres. Although it stimulates growth of different types of cells, the effects of insulin on adult neural stem cells (NSCs) have not been well characterized. Here, we reveal that insulin stimulates proliferation, but not survival or self-renewal, of adult NSCs.

Background: Paradoxical hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) induced by biologic agents (BA) is scarcely reported.

Objective: We sought to describe the clinical characteristics and outcome of patients developing paradoxical HS under BA.

Methods: This was a multicenter nationwide retrospective study asking physicians to report all cases of HS, confirmed by a dermatologist, occurring during treatment of an inflammatory disease by a BA.

Background: Planar cell polarity (PCP) in the Drosophila eye is generated when immature ommatidial preclusters acquire opposite chirality in the dorsal and ventral halves of the eye imaginal disc and rotate 90 ° toward the equator. The scabrous (sca) gene is involved in R8 differentiation and in the correct spacing of ommatidial clusters in eye imaginal discs, but it was also suggested to be required during ommatidial rotation. However, no clear relationships between sca and other genes involved in the process were established.

Objectives: The aim of our study was to compare the diagnostic performances of non-radiating whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (wbMRI), either volumetric, with Volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) or metabolic, with diffusion-weighted sequences (wbMRI), with classical irradiating techniques such as PET-CT, CT and with lymph node ultrasonography (US) for the staging of advanced melanoma.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-seven melanoma AJCC stage IV patients were prospectively included. All images were independently interpreted without prior knowledge of the results of studies performed with concurrent techniques, and all imaging techniques were scheduled within a mean interval of 7 days.

The ability to direct differentiation of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells into specific lineages not only provides new insights into the pathways that regulate lineage selection but also has translational applications, for example in drug discovery. We set out to develop a method of differentiating ES cells into mesodermal cells at high efficiency without first having to induce embryoid body formation. ES cells were plated on a feeder layer of PA6 cells, which have membrane-associated stromal-derived inducing activity (SDIA), the molecular basis of which is currently unknown.

Oncolytic adenoviruses are promising anticancer agents. To study and optimize their tumor-killing potency, genuine tumor models are required. Here we describe the use of the chicken chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) tumor model in studies on oncolytic adenoviral vectors.

Mtl is a member of the Rho family of small GTPases in Drosophila. It was shown that Mtl is involved in planar cell polarity (PCP) establishment, together with other members of the same family like Cdc42, Rac1, Rac2 and RhoA. However, while Rac1, Rac2 and RhoA function downstream of Dsh in Fz/PCP signaling and upstream of a JNK cassette, Mtl and Cdc42 do not.

Because of its excellent diagnostic performance, whole-body MRI will probably become an alternative to or replacement for positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT). The sensitivity of diffusion sequences is high. Whole body MRI is used increasingly often in oncology, for initial or follow-up staging, finding primary tumors after identifying metastases, staging for pregnant woman and children, and therapeutic follow-up.

The entry of enveloped viruses into host cells is accomplished by fusion of the viral envelope with the target cell membrane. For the paramyxovirus parainfluenza virus type 5 (PIV-5), this fusion involves an attachment protein (HN) and a class I viral fusion protein (F). We investigated the effect of 20 different combinations of 12 amino-acid substitutions within functional domains of the PIV-5 F glycoprotein, by performing cell surface expression measurements, quantitative fusion and syncytia assays.
