Background: This study aims to analyze potential risk factors that may influence the clinical outcomes following surgical treatment of traumatic peroneal nerve lesions.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with traumatic peroneal nerve injuries treated with decompression, split repair, or nerve grafting between 2010 and 2020. Motor function and potential risk factors were evaluated.
Among polar bears (), only parturient females den for extended periods, emerging from maternal dens in spring after having substantially depleted their energy reserves during a fast that can exceed 8 months. Although den emergence coincides with a period of increasing prey availability, polar bears typically do not depart immediately to hunt, but instead remain at the den for up to a month. This delay suggests that there are likely adaptive advantages to remaining at the den between emergence and departure, but the influence of the timing and duration of this post-emergence period on cub survival has not been evaluated previously.

To further understand the underlying motor cortex changes and evaluate neuroplasticity after a successful surgery, we performed a navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) study mapping the postoperative motor representation of the formerly plegic arm. We conducted a prospective nTMS study mapping the musculocutaneous nerve as a representative, prominent target of BPR including a patient ( = 8) and a control group ( = 10).

Rescue therapies include intra-arterial balloon angioplasty and repetitive and finally continuous intra-arterial nimodipine infusion.
Observations: In the presented case, a young female patient with fulminant refractory DCI and CV, despite induced hypertension and nimodipine application, was treated with three-vessel continuous intra-arterial infusion and additional repetitive angioplasty of the basilar and middle cerebral arteries using a stent retriever, leading to a good clinical outcome.
Introduction: A brachial plexus lesion is a devastating injury often affecting young, male adults after traffic accidents. Therefore, surgical restoration of elbow flexion is critical for establishing antigravity movement of the upper extremity. We analyzed different methods for musculocutaneous reconstruction regarding outcome.

The most frequently used form of rescue therapy for CVS is invasive endovascular therapy. Due to a lack of prospective data, we performed a prospective randomized multicenter trial (NCT01400360).

Yet there is a paucity of data on the adaptability of food webs to ecosystem change, including predator-prey interactions. Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are an important subsistence resource for Indigenous people and an apex predator that relies entirely on the under-ice food web to meet its energy needs.

Polar bears reduce their activity for approximately 4 days after capture, likely reflecting stress recovery. To better understand this stress, we quantified polar bear activity (via collar-mounted accelerometers) and body temperature (via loggers in the body core [T] and periphery [T]) during 2-6 months of natural behavior, and during helicopter recapture and immobilization.

As ice-adapted apex predators, polar bears () are challenged to cope with ongoing habitat degradation and changes in their prey base driven by food-web response to climate warming. Knowledge of polar bear response to environmental change is necessary to understand ecosystem dynamics and inform conservation decisions.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the time dependency of T2 and FLAIR changes after surgery for LGG. The Log-Glio database of patients treated at our hospital from 2016 to 2021 was searched for patients >18a and non-enhancing intra-axial lesion with complete MR-imaging protocol.

However, the value and efficiency of this procedure has been discussed controversially. We have evaluated the additional value of hybrid operating room equipped with an Artis Zeego robotic c-arm regarding cost, efficiency and workflow.

The present study examines its intraoperative application during surgical removal of peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNST) and metastases. This single-center study includes 10 cases of benign and malignant tumors as well as metastases of peripheral nerves (in total 11 PNST).

A variety of condition metrics have been developed but relationships between these metrics and vital rates are rarely validated. Identifying an optimal approach to estimate the body condition of polar bears is needed to improve monitoring of their response to decline in sea ice habitat.

Comparative real-life data addressing the tolerability of DA therapy across age ranges are currently sparse. This study addressed the tolerability (Shulman criteria, continued intake of DA therapy for at least 6 months) in PD patients across several European centres treated with long-acting and transdermal DA (Rotigotine skin patch, Ropinirole extended release, or Pramipexole prolonged release) as part of routine clinical care in younger and older PD patients.

In recent decades, the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) has developed a divergent movement strategy in response to diminishing sea ice where the majority of the subpopulation (73-85%) stays on the sea ice in summer and the remaining bears move to land. Although declines in sea ice are generally considered a challenge to energy balance in polar bears residing in some regions of the Arctic, little quantitative data exists concerning the seasonal energy expenditures of this apex marine carnivore.

Traumatic brachial plexus injuries (BPIs) represent a major cause of disability in young patients. The purpose of this study was to compare two populations (from Argentina and Germany) who suffered a traumatic BPI after a motorcycle accident to identify predictors of BPI and brain injury severity. Univariate and multivariable intergroup comparisons were conducted, and odds ratios were calculated to assess the associations between the different demographic, morphometric, and trauma-related variables, and the type and severity of patients' injuries.

Most subpopulations, however, receive little or no direct monitoring, hence, resource selection functions (RSF) may provide a useful proxy of polar bear distributions.

Climate change is altering the distribution of some wildlife species while warming temperatures are facilitating the northward expansion of pathogens, potentially increasing disease risk. Melting of Arctic sea ice is increasingly causing polar bears (Ursus maritimus) of the southern Beaufort Sea (SBS) to spend summer on land, where they may encounter novel pathogens. Here, we tested whether SBS polar bears on shore during summer exhibited greater immune system activity than bears remaining on the sea ice.

The aim of our examination was to compare both methods regarding hemispheric dominance and detection of involved cortex in speech-processing.
Methods: Since 2015, patients with language eloquent tumors received both fMRI and nTMS language mapping in our facility.
Background: Giant cavernous carotid aneurysms (GCCAs) usually exert substantial mass effect on adjacent intracavernous cranial nerves. Since predictors of cranial nerve deficits (CNDs) in patients with GCCA are unknown, we designed a study to identify associations between CND and GCCA morphology and the location of mass effect.
Methods: This study was based on data from the prospective clinical and imaging databases of the Giant Intracranial Aneurysm Registry.
Recently, treatment of cerebral aneurysms with the Woven EndoBridge (WEB) device has become an established endovascular strategy. However, over time, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists will be confronted with the challenge of how to treat aneurysm recanalization. The authors report the case of a 49-year-old woman who underwent re-treatment with clipping after the recanalization of a 4 × 3-mm anterior communicating artery aneurysm that had previously been treated using a 4 × 3 WEB device.

By simultaneously measuring field metabolic rates, daily activity patterns, body condition, and foraging success of polar bears moving on the spring sea ice, we found that high metabolic rates (1.6 times greater than previously assumed) coupled with low intake of fat-rich marine mammal prey resulted in an energy deficit for more than half of the bears examined.

This is particularly applicable for species that can "adaptively fast" by conserving protein to protect organ function while catabolizing endogenous tissues. Some Ursids, including polar bears (Ursus maritimus), adaptively fast during winter hibernation-and it has been suggested that polar bears also employ this strategy during summer.
