In clinical research, the analysis of patient cohorts is a widely employed method for investigating relevant healthcare questions. The ability to automatically extract large-scale patient cohorts from hospital systems is vital in order to unlock the potential of real-world clinical data, and answer pivotal medical questions through retrospective research studies. However, existing medical data is often dispersed across various systems and databases, preventing a systematic approach to access and interoperability.

Dynamic and volatile environments require that animals learn complex behavioral strategies to obtain the necessary nutritive substances. While this has been classically viewed in terms of homeostatic regulation, recent theoretical work proposed that such strategies result from reinforcement learning processes.

The aim of this study was to describe changes in incidence and phenotypic presentation of pediatric-onset IBD in northern France during a 24-year period.
Methods: Pediatric-onset IBD (<17 years) was issued from a population-based IBD study in France between 1988 and 2011.
Endoscopic sphincterotomy plus large-balloon dilation (ES-LBD) has been reported as an alternative to endoscopic sphincterotomy for the removal of bile duct stones. This multicenter study compared complete endoscopic sphincterotomy with vs. without large-balloon dilation for the removal of large bile duct stones.

Patients And Methods: In a prospective study, in 17 French centers, inclusion criteria were colonoscopy failure or general disease that excluded colonoscopy with anesthesia.
Background And Aims: Helicobacter pullorum is an enterohepatic Helicobacter species of avian origin detected in patients with acute diarrhoea and inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of the present study was to determine whether H pullorum exerts a direct effect on human intestinal epithelial cells in vitro and to characterise the bacterial mechanisms and the signalling pathways involved.
Materials And Methods: The proinflammatory properties of H pullorum from human and avian origins were measured on human gastric (AGS) and intestinal (CaCo-2 and HT-29) epithelial cell lines after co-culture with different H pullorum strains, and the extent of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) involvement was determined.
Background And Aims: Approximately 20% of patients have persistent symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux despite proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy. The aim of this study was to assess the determinants of reflux perception in patients on PPI therapy.
Patients And Methods: 20 patients with typical gastro-oesophageal reflux symptoms (heartburn and/or regurgitation) despite double-dose PPIs (twice daily) were included in this study.
