Unlabelled: Osteoporosis is often underrecognized and undertreated following periprosthetic fractures (PPF). Our study found that between 2010 and 2020, there has been no significant change in the rates of osteoporosis screening or treatment within 1 year following PPF. Orthopedic surgeons can play an integral role in helping to curtail the osteoporosis epidemic.

Plastic surgery involvement and an enhanced modified prophylaxis protocol may reduce infection rates. A total of 962 cervical spine operations were conducted by a single surgeon (TFC).

There have been studies examining resident perspectives on changes in curriculum and clinical experiences due to the pandemic; however, little research has been conducted on how residents in different specialties interpreted their educational experience and rates of burnout during the pandemic.
Methods: We extended surveys to 281 residents across 15 separate residency programs between November 17, 2020, and December 20, 2020.
The identification of clinical candidate LY3522348 (compound ) is described. LY3522348 is a highly selective, oral dual inhibitor of human ketohexokinase isoforms C and A (hKHK-C, hKHK-A). Optimization began with highly efficient ()-2-(2-methylazetidin-1-yl)-6-(1-pyrazol-4-yl)-4-(trifluoromethyl)nicotinonitrile ().

To address this problem we developed HiDENSEC, a new computational framework for analyzing chromatin conformation capture in heterogeneous samples that can infer somatic copy number alterations, characterize large-scale chromosomal rearrangements, and estimate cancer cell fractions. After validating HiDENSEC with in silico and in vitro controls, we used it to characterize chromosome-scale evolution during melanoma progression in formalin-fixed tumor samples from three patients.

During the last decade or so, acylation with fatty acids has demonstrated considerable success in prolonging the circulating half-life of therapeutic peptides by exploiting the ability of fatty acids to reversibly bind to human serum albumin (HSA), thus significantly impacting their pharmacological profiles. Employing methyl-C-labeled oleic acid or palmitic acid as probe molecules and exploiting HSA mutants designed to probe fatty acid binding, the signals in two-dimensional (2D) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra corresponding to high-affinity fatty acid binding sites in HSA were assigned.

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a dramatic increase in virtual care but little is known about how this may affect communication quality. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can experience challenges communicating or communicate in non-traditional ways.

It is well-established that CADASIL results in neurocognitive dysfunction and mood disturbance. There is also cumulative evidence that CADASIL patients are more susceptible to ischemic heart disease.

Public dental programs generally aim to increase access to oral health care for individuals with financial barriers through government payments for appointments. Low engagement from both oral health care providers and intended patients are common challenges in delivery of public dental programs, and are impediments to program impact and outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic required most EPI services to mount an unplanned, rapid pivot to virtual delivery with limited guidance on how to deliver virtual clinical services or whether quality of re-implementation and treatment outcomes would be impacted. We used a structured approach to identify essential modifications for the delivery of core components and explored facilitators and barriers for re-implementation and fidelity of a virtually delivered EPI intervention.

Prior studies in non-surgical disciplines have demonstrated that 'black cloud' perceptions are not associated with workload, albeit such perceptions may influence behavior. The influence of 'black cloud' perceptions on surgical resident workload and burnout remains to be investigated.

Our study surveyed two groups of Labor and Delivery nurses in two regionally similar community hospitals in midwestern United States: one group from a new Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) residency program (n = 49) and another from an established (legacy) OB/GYN residency program (n = 49). The survey asked nurses from the hospital with new and legacy residency program about preparedness for working with residents, perceptions of nurse-resident-patient relationships, collaboration and opinions about how resident physicians impact patient safety.

Closely related bovine RSV (BRSV) causes respiratory disease in young calves, with many similar features to those seen in HRSV. We previously showed that a Newcastle disease virus (NDV)-vectored vaccine expressing the F glycoprotein of HRSV reduced viral loads in lungs of mice and cotton rats and protected from HRSV.

Background: An effective interprofessional collaboration between healthcare providers is considered a critical component in delivering high-quality care to patients and lies at the root of ensuring positive patient outcomes.
Methods: Two samples of responses (n = 98) were collected from L&D nurses working in 2 hospitals: 1 with novel obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) residency program and 1 with legacy OB/GYN residency program.
Many physicians, particularly those practicing in remote regions, lack training opportunities to develop point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) skills. This pretest-posttest study quantified the skill improvement of learners after participating in a virtual training program that used real-time, remotely delivered point-of-care tele-ultrasound (tele-POCUS) for teaching and learner feedback provision. Ten physicians practicing in an urban tertiary (Kingston, Ontario, Canada, n = 6) or remote care center (Moose Factory, Ontario, Canada, n = 4) completed a 3-week educational program that consisted of e-learning module review, independent image acquisition practice, and expert-guided tele-POCUS consultations.

Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) have complex health care needs, and little is known about the value and appropriateness of virtual care for this patient population.
Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the accessibility of virtual primary care for patients with IDDs during the pandemic.
Rationale: Implementation of strengths model case management is increasing internationally. However, few studies have focused on its implementation process, and none have specifically addressed the implementation experience of direct-service practitioners.
Objective: This paper presents factors that facilitate and impede the successful implementation of the strengths model, with a specific focus on practitioners who deliver the intervention directly to service recipients.
Objective: Evidence concerning strengths model of case management (SMCM) remains mixed. This study aimed to test the hypotheses that higher fidelity to SMCM is associated with improved quality of life (QoL), hope, community participation, community functioning, more days of competitive employment and of independent living, and fewer days of hospitalization.
Methods: SMCM was implemented over a 3-year period, at seven sites in the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Québec, and Ontario.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine how the client–case manager working alliance in strengths model case management (SMCM) mediates the relationship between fidelity to the SMCM intervention and clients’ quality of life, hope, and community functioning.
Methods: In total, 311 people with severe mental illness, served at seven community mental health agencies in Canada, participated in the study. They were new to SMCM and participated in five structured interviews every 4.
This project involved patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a family caregiver as advisors on a knowledge translation (KT) effort on healthcare communication. The project demonstrated that with the right supports, patient and family advisors can effectively share their experiences and add a powerful voice to KT activities. Lessons learned included the importance of being creative, responsive and flexible to support the advisors, of recognizing their expertise and of building capacity in multiple advisors to allow for diverse voices and greater flexibility.
