Strong evidence suggests that the ventral region of the lateral telencephalic pallium of teleost fish, a structure involved in allocentric spatial cognition, is homologous to the hippocampus of tetrapods. This homology was first proposed on basis of anatomical data, and subsequently confirmed by developmental, functional and behavioural studies. Nonetheless, Saito and Watanabe [30,32] claim that not the lateral but, rather, the medial pallium participates in goldfish spatial navigation and should be considered the homologue of the hippocampus.

A total of 408 couples participating in 519 consecutive anonymous oocyte donation cycles were examined. Main outcome measures were fertilization rate, embryo quality, clinical pregnancy, implantation, miscarriage and live birth rates, as well as the total reproductive potential, which estimates the outcome from fresh and cryopreserved-thawed embryo transfers.

The cerebellum of mammals is an essential component of the neural circuitry underlying classical conditioning of eyeblink and other discrete responses. Although the neuroanatomical organization of the cerebellum is notably well conserved in vertebrates, little is actually known about the cerebellar learning functions in nonmammal vertebrate groups. In this work we studied whether the cerebellum of teleost fish plays a critical role in the classical conditioning of a motor response.

Incidence of anti-heparin/platelet factor 4 antibodies and heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in medical patients.

Objective: Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a life threatening complication of heparin therapy, causing thrombosis. The aim of our study was to find out the frequencies of HIT antibody seroconversion and clinical HIT in Turkish medical patients on different forms of heparins.

Methods: Our study included 61 patients who were on unfractionated heparin (UFH) (n: 37) and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) (n: 24) therapies.

Aim: Almost all cross-clamps utilized in vascular surgery, even atraumatic clamps, have been shown to cause mechanical damage to the vascular wall. In recent years, surgical procedures using an endoluminal balloon technique have been reported as an alternative occlusion strategy. This study discusses the histopathological characteristics and comparison between vascular wall damage secondary to the two occlusion techniques in the early postoperative period.

In the present work, the monitoring of the evolution of the different phytosanitary products employed in the production of a Sherry wine vinegar has been carried out. The study covers the complete process, from the grape ripening to the vinegar fermentation. For the liquid sample analysis, a method based on SBSE (stir bar sorptive extraction) coupled to GC-MS and previously developed was used.

Telencephalon ablation impairs goldfish allocentric spatial learning in a "hole-board" task.

The present work analyzes the involvement of telencephalon of goldfish in spatial strategies, using a procedure analogue to the hole-board task. With this aim, goldfish with sham operation or telencephalon ablation were trained to find a baited feeder within a twenty-five feeder matrix, which maintained stable spatial relationships relative to five peripheral landmarks. After training, different types of probe tests were conducted.

Here, we document that although ELAGIGILTV-specific CD8+ T cells from different donors initially possessed a naive phenotype, after antigen-induced in vitro expansion two distinct phenotypes correlating with cell proliferation rate emerged in the different donors. Those cultures achieving fewer cumulative population doublings (CPDs) were cytotoxic and displayed a CD45RA+CCR7- phenotype.
