Unlabelled: Early-pregnancy lifestyle (EPL) could influence the development of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM), depending on the diagnostic criteria used.

Objective: We studied EPL in 1750 pregnant women using Carpenter-Coustan criteria(CCc), and in 1526 with the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups criteria(IADPSGc).

Methods: GDM risk factors were assessed in women between 24 and 28 weeks of gestational age during two consecutive years.

It was generally assumed that the ventricle of the primitive vertebrate heart was composed of trabeculated, or spongy, myocardium, supplied by oxygen-poor luminal blood. In addition, it was presumed that the mixed ventricular myocardium, consisting of a compacta and a spongiosa, and its supply through coronary arteries appeared several times throughout fish evolution. Recent work has suggested, however, that a fully vascularized, mixed myocardium may be the primitive condition in gnathostomes.

Relationships Between Dose Intensity, Toxicity, and Outcome in Patients with Oligodendroglial Tumors Treated with the PCV Regimen.

Background/aim: The drug combination of procarbazine, lomustine (CCNU) and vincristine (PCV) has been associated with efficacy in oligodendroglial gliomas (OG) when added to radiotherapy as the first line of treatment, despite the important toxicity of this treatment schedule. The aim of the present study was to analyze the tolerance, feasibility and impact of the dose intensity of the PCV regimen on outcome for patients with OG.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with OG receiving PCV (CCNU=110 mg/m(2)) who were referred to our two Institutions.

Is sunitinib-induced hypothyroidism a predictive clinical marker for better response in metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients?

Background: The main goal of this study was to examine whether the occurrence of hypothyroidism during sunitinib therapy in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) is associated with a better outcome.

Methods: The study enrolled 81 patients with pathologically proven mRCC who were treated with sunitinib between March 2008 and June 2013.Thyroid function evaluation comprised (free-thyroxine) FT4 and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) before treatment and at day 1 of each 6-week cycle.

Association of lipid profile alterations with severe forms of dengue in humans.

Previous studies have shown a relationship between circulating lipids and dengue virus infection; however, the association of altered lipid profiles with severe dengue remains little studied. The aim of this study was to determine the association between circulating lipid content and severe dengue and/or platelet counts. Ninety-eight patients (2-66 years old) classified as having dengue without warning signs (DNWS), dengue with warning signs (DWWS), or severe dengue (SD) and 62 healthy individuals were studied.

Prolonged anorexia nervosa associated with female-to-male gender dysphoria: A case report.

Transsexual (TS) individuals seem to display an increased risk in having eating disorders. Several case reports describe TS individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN). In order to understand better the impact of gender dysphoria (GD) and hormonal/surgical treatments on the occurrence and course of eating disorders in TS patients long term follow-up studies are needed.

Factors affecting prognosis in metastatic colorectal cancer patients.

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major cause of mortality in developed countries, and it is the third most frequent malignancy in Turkey. There are many biological, genetic, molecular, and tissue-derived prognostic factors for CRCs. In this study, we evaluated prognostic factors in patients who were metastatic at diagnosis or progressed to metastatic disease during follow-up.

Analyses of multiple factors for determination of "selected patients" who should receive rechallenge treatment in metastatic colorectal cancer: a retrospective study from Turkey.

Background: Repeating a prior chemotherapy (rechallenge therapy) is an option for selected patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, but there is very little evidence in the literature for this approach. Thus, we reviewed our registry to evaluate prognostic factors and survival of patients who received irinotecan and oxaliplatin- based regimens as rechallenge third and fourth-line therapy.

Materials And Methods: Patients who received irinotecan-based or oxaliplatin-base regimen as first-line had been rechallenged with third-line or fourth-line therapy.

Quadricuspid aortic valves in Syrian hamsters and their formation according to current knowledge on valvulogenesis.

Occurrence of quadricuspid aortic valves has been reported in humans, in nine dogs and in a greater white-toothed shrew. Moreover, two cases of developing aortic valves with four anticipated leaflets have been described in Syrian hamster embryos. Currently, however, no case of quadricuspid aortic valve in adult hamsters has been recorded.

Effect of microorganisms on etiology of hematospermia.

Background: Hematospermia is the presence of blood in the ejaculate. Its etiology is congenital, inflammatory, infectious, obstructive, tumoral, vascular, traumatic, iatrogenic or related to systemic disease. It is a quite irritating and life-quality-disturbing condition for men.

Patient Outcomes of an International Telepediatric Cardiac Critical Care Program.

Background: An optimal model for telemedicine use in the international care setting has not been established. Our objective was to describe variables associated with patient outcome during the implementation of an international pediatric cardiac critical care (PCCC) telemedicine program.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was performed of clinical records and a telemedicine database of patients admitted to the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) at the Fundacion Cardiovascular de Colombia, Bucaramanga, Colombia, during the initial 10 months of our program, compared with patients admitted during a previous period.

A classification system for ulnar polydactyly and clinical series.

Purpose: To describe a modified classification that includes both complicated ulnar polydactyly and ulnar polydactyly with bifid or duplicated proximal phalanx and to apply it to a clinical series.

Methods: A total of 42 patients with ulnar polydactyly were admitted to our outpatient clinic between January 2004 and January 2014 and were included in the study. Patients' clinical and radiological data were evaluated retrospectively and organized into 5 different subgroups.

Repression of Intestinal Stem Cell Function and Tumorigenesis through Direct Phosphorylation of β-Catenin and Yap by PKCζ.

Intestinal epithelial homeostasis requires continuous renewal supported by stem cells located in the base of the crypt. Disruption of this balance results in failure to regenerate and initiates tumorigenesis. The β-catenin and Yap pathways in Lgr5 stem cells have been shown to be central to this process.

Feasibility and safety of an early discharge strategy after low-risk acute myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention: the EDAMI pilot trial.

Objectives: This pilot trial evaluated the feasibility and safety of an early discharge strategy (EDS: ≤72 h, followed by outpatient lifestyle interventions), in comparison with a conventional discharge strategy (CDS) for low-risk (Zwolle risk score ≤3) ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with primary angioplasty.

Methods: One hundred patients were randomized to an EDS (n = 54) or a CDS (n = 46). The primary end point was the feasibility of the EDS: (1) ≥70% of EDS patients discharged ≤72 h, (2) ≥70% visited by a nurse ≤7 days after discharge, (3) ≥70% with ≥3 visits by the nurse and (4) ≥70% visited by a cardiologist ≤3 months.

Treatment preferences in stage IA and IB testicular seminoma: multicenter study of Anatolian Society of Medical Oncology.

Background: Approximately 75 % of patients with testicular seminoma present with stage I disease, and the probability of long-term survival approaches 100 %. However, the standard adjuvant treatment for stage I seminoma patients remains controversial, and there is no uniform consensus in the literature. The present study was performed to evaluate treatment preference and outcomes for men with stage I testicular seminoma.

Background: Patients suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), despite heightened levels of functional impairment and disability, often wait several years before starting pharmacological treatment. The interval between the onset of a specific psychiatric disorder and administration of the first pharmacological treatment has been conceptualized as the duration of untreated illness (DUI). The DUI has been increasingly investigated as a predictor of long-term outcomes for OCD and other anxiety disorders.

Supernumerary nostril: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia with a rare congenital anomaly.

Multiple or supernumerary nostril is a rare congenital anomaly with unknown etiology. The first case was reported by Lindsay as bilateral supernumerary nostrils. Supernumerary nostril cases are mostly unilateral and isolated.

Feasibility and accuracy of using mobile phone images of electrocardiograms to initiate the cardiac catheterization process.

We assessed the feasibility of interpreting the presence of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) using ECGs captured and transmitted by mobile phones. Transmitted ECGs were interpreted by four independent and blinded physicians, who classified them as STEMI, non-STEMI or indeterminate. After 2-4 weeks the same physicians were given the original paper ECGs for interpretation.

The prevalence of antinuclear antibodies in patients with sarcoidosis.

Introduction. Sarcoidosis, which is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous disease, can mimic different rheumatologic diseases including connective tissue diseases. Antinuclear antibodies are the markers used for connective tissue diseases.
