Objective: We piloted a high-value care (HVC) communication skills curriculum utilizing the Four Habits Model for communication. We hoped residents would 1) learn to apply the Four Habits communication model to HVC discussions with standardized patients (SP) and 2) improve value-based communication skills through training in a high-intensity curriculum with feedback from trained faculty facilitators and peers.

The field of thanatology emphasizes understanding grief as situated within social contexts. Yet, existing research largely examines individual experiences, neglecting to critically examine the role that sociocultural systems and forms of oppression play in how people grieve. In this manuscript, we use the social constructionist model of grief as an epistemological stepping stone to operationalize intersectionality as a framework to engage in this critical qualitative research.

Increases In Women's Political Representation Associated With Reductions In Child Mortality In Brazil.

We assessed the effects of female political representation on mortality among children younger than age five in Brazil and the extent to which this effect operates through coverage with conditional cash transfers and primary care services. We combined data on under-five mortality rates with data on women elected as mayors or representatives in state and federal legislatures for 3,167 municipalities during 2000-15. Results from fixed-effects regression models suggest that the election of a female mayor and increases in the shares of women elected to state legislatures and to the federal Chamber of Deputies to 20 percent or more were significantly associated with declines in under-five mortality.

The congenital origin of BAV is suspected to impact the development of the disease in the adult life. Choosing Daily Labs Wisely in the Hospital: A Novel Tool for Assessing Laboratory Testing Appropriateness.

Background: The Minnesota Lab Appropriateness (MLAB) criteria were developed for assessing appropriateness of complete blood counts (CBCs) and serum electrolyte panels (SEPs) ordered for adult inpatients.

Methods: Two independent raters used the MLAB criteria to rate appropriateness of labs ordered during 50 hospitalizations through retrospective medical record review.

Results: Evaluation of 208 CBCs and 253 SEPs on a 2-category scale (appropriate/inappropriate) resulted in an inappropriate lab rate of 24% and 25% for CBCs and SEPs, respectively.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Psychoeducation Given to Children with Parental Psychiatric Disorders.

This study was aimed to determine the effectiveness of psychoeducation program which was developed to improve the coping skills and to increase the psychological resistance of 12-18 years children/adolescents whose parents' have psychiatric disorders. The study was carried out between May 2018 - November 2019 with children of patients who applied to the outpatient clinic and inpatient treatment at Istanbul University - Cerrahpasa, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Total of 40 children (experiment = 20 and control = 20), participated in the study.

There is an increasing need for alternative access in patients with prohibitive surgical risk who have unsuitable anatomy for transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Data on differences in periprocedural outcomes via alternative access sites are scarce. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent Transaxillary (TAX) or Transapical (TAP) TAVR at our center from 2012 to 2019.

Role of different nutrient profiling models in identifying targeted foods for front-of-package food labelling in Brazil.

Objective: To compare the degree of strictness and agreement of different nutrient profiling models (NPM) used to identify which foods would be required to show front-of-package (FOP) warning labels.

Design: Using data of 11 434 packaged foods found in the five largest food retailers in Brazil, we used two published NPM: the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) model and the NPM used in the Chilean nutritional FOP labelling policy, and compared them with a NPM proposed by the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The proportion of foods that would be required to show FOP warning labels was calculated overall and by food category.

The atrioventricular junction of the fish heart, namely the segment interposed between the single atrium and the single ventricle, has been studied anatomically and histologically in several chondrichthyan and teleost species. Nonetheless, knowledge about myosin heavy chain (MyHC) in the atrioventricular myocardium remains scarce. The present report is the first one to provide data on the MyHC isoform distribution in the myocardium of the atrioventricular junction in chondrichthyans, specifically in the lesser spotted dogfish, Scyliorhinus canicula, a shark species whose heart reflects the primitive cardiac anatomical design in gnathostomes.

Hybrid Sol-Gel Silica Coatings Containing Graphene Nanosheets for Improving the Corrosion Protection of AA2024-T3.

In the present work, nanostructured graphene nanosheets were added to hybrid silica sols and deposited on aluminium alloy A2024-T3 to study the effect on the corrosion behaviour. Sols were prepared using tetraethyl-orthosilicate (TEOS), 3-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and a colloidal silica suspension (LUDOX) as silica precursors with adding chemically modified graphene nanosheets (GN-chem). The graphene nanosheets were modified through a straightforward and simple hydrothermal approach and then, dispersed into a silica sol (SiO/GN-chem).

The use of combination biological or small molecule therapy in inflammatory bowel disease: A retrospective cohort study.

Objective: There are limited data on using more than one biologic or small molecule drug combined to treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of our study was to determine the effectiveness and safety of combination biologic use in inflammatory bowel disease.

Methods: We identified patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis who received treatment with a combination of two biologics or a biologic and a small molecule drug from 2015 to 2019 for persistent disease activity or concomitant rheumatological or dermatological disease.

Testing the cross-stressor hypothesis under real-world conditions: exercise as a moderator of the association between momentary anxiety and cardiovascular responses.

The cross-stressor adaptation hypothesis of exercise training has not been investigated under real-life conditions. Using ecological momentary assessment, we tested whether usual exercise level moderates the relationship of self-reported anxiety to concurrent ambulatory heart rate (HR) and systolic/diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP). Participants (N = 832) completed 24-h ambulatory monitoring of HR/BP, using a brachial BP cuff that took readings at 28-min intervals.
