The aim of this study was to obtain data on Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) profiles of () isolates resulting from acquired immune memory in addition to their technological starter properties for the selection of potential starter cultures from local yogurt samples. A total of 24 isolates were collected from six local yogurt samples including Afyon/Dinar, Uşak, Konya/Karapınar, and Tokat provinces of Türkiye. Strain-specific CRISPR I-II-III and IV primers were used to determine the CRISPR profiles of the isolates.

Background: To compare the long-term safety and efficacy of Adalimumab (ADA) and Infliximab (IFX) agents in biologic-naive patients with Ulcerative colitis (UC).

Methods: The key focus was on specific outcomes such as the requirement of hospitalization due to UC, colectomy, steroid administration, and severe infections that led to the discontinuation of therapy.

Results: Anti-TNF treatment was initiated in 208 of the 475 patients with ulcerative colitis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the best timing for endoscopy in elderly patients (65+) experiencing nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB) and its effect on clinical outcomes.
  • Very early endoscopy (within 12 hours) showed significantly lower 30-day mortality rates and reduced need for surgical interventions compared to late endoscopy (after 24 hours).
  • Patients who had late endoscopy were more likely to experience rebleeding, indicating timing is crucial for improving patient outcomes in this demographic.

Drug-induced autoimmune hepatitis (DI-AIH) is a condition that mimics autoimmune hepatitis both histologically and clinically, making diagnosis challenging. Ribociclib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor used in the treatment of metastatic breast carcinoma, has been associated with rare cases of DI-AIH. We present the case of a 46-year-old woman undergoing treatment with ribociclib for metastatic breast carcinoma, who developed fatigue, skin rash, and significantly elevated liver enzymes two months into therapy.

  • The study analyzed risks and clinical outcomes of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in elderly (≥75 years) versus younger patients, finding 22.8% of participants were elderly.
  • It revealed significant comorbidities and a higher prevalence of periampullary diverticulum (PAD) in the elderly, though key procedural metrics like cannulation technique and success rates were similar across age groups.
  • Despite comparable complication rates, elderly patients experienced longer hospital stays and worse outcomes after complications, highlighting prolonged cannulation time as a notable risk factor.

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites. However, Facebook intrusion or addiction is a growing concern as it involves an excessive attachment to Facebook, which disrupts daily functioning. To date, few studies have examined whether cross-cultural differences in the measurement of Facebook addiction exist.

  • Oral manifestations in Crohn's disease (CD) can include both specific and non-specific lesions, complicating diagnosis and treatment.
  • A study analyzed 676 CD patients, revealing 96 (14.2%) had oral lesions: 88 with non-specific and 8 with specific lesions confirmed by dentists.
  • The majority of patients with specific lesions were male and older, and these lesions were linked to more severe CD, with some patients improving through biological or immunomodulatory therapies.

: Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) of the breast is commonly associated with a poor prognosis due to its high incidence of lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastasis (LNM). Our study is aimed at investigating the prognostic significance of the expressions of E-cadherin (E-cad), N-cadherin (N-cad), CD44s, and -catenin (-cat). In addition, it is aimed at deciphering the consistency of these markers between the IMPC, the invasive breast carcinoma, no-special type (IBC-NST), and LNM components in the same IMPC cases.

Kombucha is a traditional beverage produced by a living culture known as SCOBY or "symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast". Culture-dependent production is essential for stable kombucha fermentation. The aim of this study was to design a microbial community and to determine the effect of that community on the flavor and chemical properties of kombucha.

Objective: Dexpanthenol (DXP), which has known neuroprotective effects, has been shown to be beneficial in various experimental models and ischaemic diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible neuroprotective effects of DXP in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) model.

Methods: Thirty-six Wistar-Albino female rats, approximately 6 months old, weighing 220-285 g were used.

Objective: The aim of the study was to retrospectively analyze the patients who underwent thyroidectomy at a tertiary academic center regarding their surgical indications, histopathological diagnosis, and surgical complications.

Methods: The study included a total of 739 consecutive patients who underwent lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, or completion thyroidectomy performed under intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of Dokuz Eylül University between January 2009 and December 2019. Demographic data of the patients, preoperative clinicopathological characteristics, postoperative complications, characteristics of surgery and histopathological results were evaluated.

Anastomotic leakage in esophagogastric and esophagojejunal anastomoses after esophagectomy/gastrectomy is a severe complication with a high mortality rate. We aimed to evaluate the technical and clinical success and outcomes of endoscopic placement of fully covered self-expanding metallic stents (FCSEMSs) for treating anastomotic leaks that develop after cancer surgery. All consecutive patients treated at the Gastroenterology Department, Ankara City Hospital, Ankara, Turkey, who underwent endoscopic FCSEMSs for leaks of esophagogastric or esophagojejunal anastomosis between February 2015 and December 2021 were included in the study.

  • The study examines the causes and outcomes of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding in patients over 65, particularly focusing on those using anti-thrombotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
  • The research included 257 patients and found that 10% experienced re-bleeding and 16% had a 30-day mortality rate, with peptic ulcers being the most common cause across all groups.
  • No significant differences were noted in treatment outcomes or complications among patients taking anti-thrombotics, NSAIDs, or neither, although NSAID users showed a higher incidence of peptic ulcers compared to non-users.

Introduction: As being an initiating actions and resisting short-term temptations, self-control is negatively related to digital media addiction. However, many studies indicate that there are variables that may mediate this relationship. The present study investigated the mediating role of media multitasking and time style in the relationship between self-control and digital media addiction.
