Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is linked to the buildup of harmful lipid molecules like 7-ketocholesterol (7KCh), which contribute to cell damage and amyloid-beta aggregation.
  • A study tested two natural compounds, bornyl acetate (BA) and menthol (ME), for their neuroprotective effects against 7KCh-induced damage in nerve cells, comparing their results to the drug galantamine (GA).
  • Findings revealed that BA and ME significantly reduced harmful effects like lipid accumulation and amyloid generation, improved cell survival, and regulated various biological pathways involved in inflammation and cell stress, showing promise as preventive treatments for AD.

Phagocytosis by macrophages dates back to a long history in science, this present study deals with new approaches that have been analyzed and standardized towards the interesting aspects of primary and secondary macrophages. The distinct morphological differences in primary and secondary phagocytic cells were observed and the phagocytic response of secondary macrophages under the influence of 7-ketocholesterol and lipopolysaccharide was analyzed. The primary peritoneal and secondary IC-21 cells unveiled explicit differences in nuclear numbers shapes and sizes of the granules present within the cytoplasmic region.

Context: Boron-based nanostructures hold significant promise for revolutionizing hydrogen storage technologies due to their exceptional properties and potential in efficiently accommodating and interacting with hydrogen molecules. In this paper, boron-based B (n = 3-14) nanoclusters decorated with alkaline earth metals (AEM = Ca and Be) were investigated for hydrogen storage applications based on density function theory (DFT) calculations. To evaluate H adsorption capability, the adsorption energies, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), natural bond orbital (NBO), and quantum theory of atoms in molecule (QTAIM) analysis are performed.

Purpose: The limitations of foundation restorations have been reduced with the advent of endocrowns. Despite their success, the extent of endocrowns tooth preparation into the pulp chamber has not been fully explored in the literature. The study aimed to evaluate the clinical performance of endocrowns with 5 mm extended pulp chamber tooth preparations in Indian patients over a 1- year period using modified USPHS criteria.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates cutaneous immune-related adverse events (cIRAEs) in Indian cancer patients undergoing immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy and their potential link to improved survival outcomes.* -
  • Out of 86 patients studied, 16 (18.6%) experienced cIRAEs, primarily pruritus and maculopapular eruptions, with patients reporting these events demonstrating longer progression-free survival.* -
  • The research found a lower incidence of cIRAEs in the Indian population compared to Caucasian groups, suggesting that these skin reactions could be indicators of better therapeutic responses.*

Vibrational energy harvesters are capable of converting low-frequency broad-band mechanical energy into electrical power and can be used in implantable medical devices and wireless sensors. With the use of such energy harvesters, it is feasible to generate continuous power that is more reliable and cost-effective. According to previous findings, the energy harvester can offer rich complex dynamics, one of which is obtaining the synchronization behavior, which is intriguing to achieve desirable power from energy harvesters.

Various dynamical properties of four-dimensional mammalian cold receptor model have been discussed widely in the literature considering noise and temperature as important parameters of discussion. Though various spiking and bursting behaviors of the neuron under various noise and temperature conditions studied for a single neuron, no much discussions have been done on the collective behavior. We investigate the collective behavior of these temperature dependent stochastic neurons and unlike the neuron models when forced by periodic external force there is no wave reentry or spiral waves in the network.

Janus Kinase inhibitors have been shown to be effective in the treatment of various dermatoses such as alopecia areata, psoriasis, vitiligo and atopic dermatitis. The Janus kinase-signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway is a common junction for the signaling of several dermatologically significant cytokines and the inhibition of this pathway by JAK inhibitors may be broadly useful in the treatment of various other dermatological disorders. A case series is presented of twelve patients (M:6, F:6) with a mean age 47.

Cyclin dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6 inhibitors are targeted agents which act on cyclin-D and these combined with hormonal therapy have been approved for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. CDK 4/6 inhibitors have been found to have a tolerable adverse event profile; however, they have been associated with various dermatological adverse events. We report a case of ribociclib-induced vitiligo and discuss the clinical, dermoscopic and histological features with a review of the various possible pathomechanisms involved.

Oxytetracycline (OTC), is a widely used veterinary antibiotic for treatment and prophylaxis in aquaculture. As an emerging pollutant, OTC in the environment exerts selective pressure on aquatic organisms causing proliferation of antibiotic resistant genes. In the present study, an OTC tolerant isolate labelled as pw2 was selected among the 11 OTC tolerant isolates, isolated from the aquaculture effluent, for investigating its OTC degrading potential.

Though there are many neuron models based on differential equations, the complexity in realizing them into digital circuits is still a challenge. Hence, many new discrete neuron models have been recently proposed, which can be easily implemented in digital circuits. We consider the well-known FitzHugh-Nagumo model and derive the discrete version of the model considering the sigmoid type of recovery variable and electromagnetic flux coupling.
