Given the clinical need for osteoregenerative materials incorporating controlled biomimetic and biophysical cues, a novel highly-substituted norbornene-modified gelatin was developed enabling thiol-ene crosslinking exploiting thiolated gelatin as cell-interactive crosslinker. Comparing the number of physical crosslinks, the degree of hydrolytic degradation upon modification, the network density and the chemical crosslinking type, the osteogenic effect of visco-elastic and topographical properties was evaluated. This novel network outperformed conventional gelatin-based networks in terms of osteogenesis induction, as evidenced in 2D dental pulp stem cell seeding assays, resulting from the presentation of both a local (substrate elasticity, 25-40 kPa) and a bulk (compressive modulus, 25-45 kPa) osteogenic substrate modulus in combination with adequate fibrillar cell adhesion spacing to optimally transfer traction forces from the fibrillar ECM (as evidenced by mesh size determination with the rubber elasticity theory) and resulting in a 1.

Objectives: Around 30% of patients with RA have an inadequate response to MTX. We aimed to use routine clinical and biological data to build machine learning models predicting EULAR inadequate response to MTX and to identify simple predictive biomarkers.

Methods: Models were trained on RA patients fulfilling the 2010 ACR/EULAR criteria from the ESPOIR and Leiden EAC cohorts to predict the EULAR response at 9 months (± 6 months).

Objectives: Around 30% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) do not respond to tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi). We aimed to predict patient response to TNFi using machine learning on simple clinical and biological data.

Methods: We used data from the RA ESPOIR cohort to train our models.

There is an increasing need for rapid, reliable, non-invasive, and inexpensive mass testing methods as the global COVID-19 pandemic continues. Detection dogs could be a possible solution to identify individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2. Previous studies have shown that dogs can detect SARS-CoV-2 on sweat samples.

Magnonics is a budding research field in nanomagnetism and nanoscience that addresses the use of spin waves (magnons) to transmit, store, and process information. The rapid advancements of this field during last one decade in terms of upsurge in research papers, review articles, citations, proposals of devices as well as introduction of new sub-topics prompted us to present the first roadmap on magnonics. This is a collection of 22 sections written by leading experts in this field who review and discuss the current status besides presenting their vision of future perspectives.

Background: Hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to platinum salts (PS) and taxanes (TX) are a challenge to cancer management. Allergy evaluation based on skin tests (ST) and graded challenges can provide a diagnosis of an allergy to a suspected drug and indicate possible treatment with alternative same-class drugs.

Objective: This study aimed to estimate the negative predictive value of ST in the diagnosis of HSRs to TX and PS.

We consider here the magnetization dynamics induced in a ferromagnet by magnetoelastic coupling, after application of a step like strain. We derive the time evolution of the magnetization vector. We show that the material micromagnetic parameters (and specifically magnetic anisotropy and magnetoelastic coupling) can be derived from measurable quantities, i.

We show on in-plane magnetized thin films that magnetization can be switched efficiently by 180 degrees using large amplitude Rayleigh waves travelling along the hard or easy magnetic axis. Large characteristic filament-like domains are formed in the latter case. Micromagnetic simulations clearly confirm that this multi-domain configuration is compatible with a resonant precessional mechanism.

We present a molecular dynamics investigation of the cross-plane thermal conductivity of superlattices using the non-equilibrium molecular dynamics method. The purpose is to investigate the influence of the interfaces, which is expected to be important in those nanostructures where the superlattice period is smaller than the phonon mean free path. In contrast to previous studies, more realistic interfaces are considered: interfacial roughness is modeled using atomic rectangular islands and interdiffusion is taken into account.

Comparative genomics has developed by comparison of distantly related genomes, for which the link between the reported evolutionary changes and species development/physiology/ecology is not obvious. It is argued that the mouse (genus Mus) is an optimal model for microevolutionary genomics in vertebrates. This is because the mouse genome sequence, physical and genetic map have been completed, because mouse genetics, morpho-anatomy, pathology, behavior and ecology are well-studied, and because the Mus genus is a diverse, well- documented taxon, allowing comparative studies at the level of individual, population, subspecies, and species.

We show that the nonlinear behavior of transverse acoustic waves can reveal the anisotropic structure of an icosahedral quasicrystal, at the macroscopic level. We report experiments performed in i-Al-Pd-Mn. We observe that a primary transverse acoustic wave can generate a second harmonic transverse acoustic wave.

The third-order elastic constant C111 of silicon is measured with a comparison method, based on the interaction between longitudinal acoustic waves. The value is in good agreement with published values and demonstrates the validity of the method.

The authors studied the different ultrasonographic features of 460 cases of hepatic amebic abscesses in a Central African endemic area. Except some chronic or cystic abscesses, ultrasonography shows the poor efficacy of the perifocal connective tissue barrier. The coalescence of necrotic hepatic foci and the creation of anatomic rupture are the main mechanisms allowing the lesion to spread in the hepatic parenchyma.
