Tau pathology in sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD) follows a distinct pattern, beginning in the entorhinal cortex (ERC) and spreading to interconnected brain regions. Early-stage tau pathology, characterized by soluble phosphorylated tau, is difficult to study in human brains post-mortem due to rapid dephosphorylation. Rhesus macaques, which naturally develop age-related tau pathology resembling human AD, provide an ideal model for investigating early tau etiology.

In the wild-type, the CIP activators Rgf1 (Rho1 GEF) and Pck2 (PKC homologue) and the MEK kinase Mkh1 localize in the PM, internalize after osmotic shock and re-localize after adaptation.

However, there is a lack on studies investigating if DO exhibits higher cardiometabolic risk than non-dynapenic obesity. To assess if individuals with DO exhibit elevated cardiometabolic risk compared to non-dynapenic obesity.

The study explores vine shoots as a biomass source for fermentable sugars through pretreatment with two deep eutectic solvents mixtures: choline chloride:lactic acid 1:5 (ChCl:LA) and choline chloride:ethylene glycol 1:2 (ChCl:EG). Pretreatment conditions, such as temperature/time, solid/liquid ratio, and biomass particle size, were studied.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) stand out among the bioplastics group by being intracellular biobased, biodegradable and biocompatible polymers. PHA production has been highly investigated during the last decades.

The air-water interface is a highly prevalent phase boundary impacting many natural and artificial processes. The significance of this interface arises from the unique properties of water molecules within the interfacial region, with a crucial parameter being the thickness of its structural anisotropy, or "healing depth". This quantity has been extensively assessed by various simulations which have converged to a prediction of a remarkably short length of ∼6 Å.

The data have been gathered from over 300 selected regions at gyral crowns, at sulci, and at linear regions of the cortex where we also determined cortical layer thicknesses: standard thicknesses and tangential thicknesses. Cortical thicknesses and cell numbers showed variability according to gyral, linear, or sulcal regions.

Here, we explored the expression dynamics of cortical and neuropsychiatric disorder-associated genes in datasets generated from human NSCs across telencephalic fate transitions in vitro and in vivo. We identified risk genes expressed in brain organizers and sequential gene regulatory networks across corticogenesis revealing disease-specific critical phases, when NSCs are more vulnerable to gene dysfunctions, and converging signaling across multiple diseases.

The proposed strategy is subjected to testing within an operational environment of an acrylic acid plant. To integrate sustainability tools into the plantwide optimizing control (PWOC) formulation, the present proposal suggests the utilization of green chemistry principles.

Recognizing that preventive interventions are typically more effective in preclinical stages, current research endeavors to focus on identifying early biological markers of SCD using resting-state electroencephalogram (rsEEG) methods. To do so, a systematic literature review covering the past 20 years was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, in order to consolidate findings on rsEEG frequency bands in individuals with SCD.

Objective: To examine the molecular mechanisms expressed in layer III pyramidal cells in primate dorsolateral prefrontal cortices.

Background: The nigrostriatal system is especially vulnerable to neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD) and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a limiting factor for delivery of therapeutic agents to the brain. This pilot study aimed to demonstrate safety, feasibility and tissue penetration (by 18F-Choline-positron emission tomography (PET)) of MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) simultaneous BBB opening (BBB-O) in the substantia nigra (SN) and putamen in PD.
Methods: Three patients underwent MRgFUS for midbrain and putamen BBB-O.
Importance: Unilateral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided focused ultrasound subthalamotomy (FUS-STN) improves cardinal motor features among patients with asymmetrical Parkinson disease (PD). The feasibility of bilateral FUS-STN is as yet unexplored.
Objective: To assess the safety and effectiveness of staged bilateral FUS-STN to treat PD.
This study describes the largest cohort to date (n = 147) of pregnant patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) on bictegravir (BIC). BIC in pregnancy was associated with high levels of viral suppression and perinatal outcomes similar to those in the published literature. These findings support consideration for the use of BIC in managing HIV during pregnancy.

Previous work has focused on catecholamine actions on dlPFC pyramidal cells, but inhibitory interneurons may contribute as well. The current study combined immunohistochemistry and multi-scale microscopy with iontophoretic physiology and behavioral analyses to examine the effects of beta1-noradrenergic receptors (β1-ARs) on inhibitory neurons in layer III dlPFC.

Specifically, in the field of adult hippocampal neurogenesis, where this concept is central, there is a trend to consider that puberty marks the start of adulthood and is not uncommon to find 30-day-old mice being described as adults. However, as others discussed earlier, this implies an important bias in the perceived importance of this trait because functional studies are normally done at very young ages, when neurogenesis is at its peak, disregarding middle aged and old animals that exhibit very little generation of new neurons.

Self-collected vaginal swabs can expand testing access, but the data defining analytical performance criteria necessary for adoption of self-collected specimens are limited, especially for those occurring outside the clinic, where the swab remains dry during transport. Here, we evaluated the performance of self-collected vaginal swabs for HPV detection using the Cobas 6800.

Methods: We used multilabel immunofluorescence and immunoelectron microscopy to examine the subcellular localization of early-stage pT217-tau in entorhinal and prefrontal cortices of aged macaques with naturally occurring tau pathology and assayed pT217-tau levels in plasma.
Results: pT217-tau was aggregated on microtubules within dendrites exhibiting early signs of degeneration, including autophagic vacuoles.
Numerous studies have shown reduced performance in plants that are surrounded by neighbours of the same species, a phenomenon known as conspecific negative density dependence (CNDD). A long-held ecological hypothesis posits that CNDD is more pronounced in tropical than in temperate forests, which increases community stabilization, species coexistence and the diversity of local tree species. Previous analyses supporting such a latitudinal gradient in CNDD have suffered from methodological limitations related to the use of static data.

Climatic effects on decomposition and soil quality are suggested to drive mycorrhizal distributions, with arbuscular mycorrhizal plants prevailing in low-latitude/high-soil-quality areas and ectomycorrhizal (EcM) plants in high-latitude/low-soil-quality areas. However, these generalizations, based on coarse-resolution data, obscure finer-scale variations and result in high uncertainties in the predicted distributions of mycorrhizal types and their drivers.
