Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a study that examines the prognostic value of lactate metabolism genes in tumor cells, which are associated with clinical prognosis. We analyzed the expression and clinical data for LUAD from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, using the GSE68465 dataset from the Gene Expression Omnibus and the MSigDB database. LASSO Cox regression and stepwise Cox regression were used to identify the optimal lactate metabolism gene signature.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) exhibits diverse tumor types, and this research aims to identify its subtypes and create a reliable prognostic model based on gene activity changes.* -
  • Utilizing data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), researchers analyzed gene activity to identify prognosis-related differential gene sets and established a prognostic risk score (RS) model and nomogram for predicting patient outcomes.* -
  • The study identified two LUAD subtypes, with Cluster 2 showing a poorer prognosis; the developed prognostic signature effectively predicts survival and can guide personalized treatment strategies for patients.*

Mitochondrial DNA is implicated in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) development. We aimed to identify valuable mtDNAs that contribute to the development of HCM. Differentially expressed mitochondrial DNAs (DEMGs) between HCM and controls were screened.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how abnormal DNA methylation and transcription factors (TFs) influence cancer progression and prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).
  • Through comprehensive analyses of public genomic data, researchers identified key TFs and their relationships with methylation sites and genes linked to LUAD outcomes.
  • The findings suggest that specific regulatory axes, particularly ERG-cg27071152-MTURN and FOXM1-cg19212949-PTPR, could serve as potential biomarkers for predicting LUAD prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on analyzing how certain CT features of lung adenocarcinoma relate to vascular tumor thrombus and nerve invasion in patients.
  • Researchers examined CT scans of 86 patients who had surgery, comparing results from enhanced and plain CT scans for their diagnostic effectiveness.
  • Findings showed that enhanced CT had significantly higher sensitivity and accuracy for detecting vascular tumor thrombus and nerve invasion compared to plain CT, indicating that certain tumor characteristics on CT can help predict these complications.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are proved to perform critical function in regulating cancer cell behavior. It is reported that LINC00324 promotes lung adenocarcinoma development by regulating miR-615-5p/AKT1 axis. This study aimed to demonstrate whether LINC00324 participates in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) pathogenesis through other molecular mechanism.

Background: Although posterior mediastinal (PM) route and retrosternal (RS) route have been used for reconstruction after minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE), the optimal route remains controversial. This study reviewed our experiences with McKeown MIEs for esophageal cancer and aimed to investigate which route was better for esophageal reconstruction.

Materials And Methods: From December 2011 to December 2013, 103 patients who underwent McKeown MIE and esophageal reconstruction by PM or RS routes were reviewed.

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is one of the leading causes of cancer mortality. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), small noncoding RNAs, regulate the expression of genes that play roles in human cancer via posttranscriptional inhibition.

Methods: To identify the potential miRNA biomarkers in NSCLC, we downloaded the miRNA expression profile (ID: GSE29248) of NSCLC from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database and analyzed the differentially expressed miRNAs in NSCLC tissue compared with normal control tissue.
